    Check out our mix.

I am not a metal fan, but this is some great metal playing. Performance is A++. I'd even say I think the recording is perfect. The mix falls down in my opinion. This is a powerful sound, but the mix is far away. It doesn't punch me in the face, but it should...the music does, the mix...

    Situation Lost

The song is great. The vocals are money, but the recording of the vocals is clipping. The entire recording is a bit tinny for my taste. What was your process for recording? On a side note...note to forum...I'd love to hear how everyone is recording what they are posting, so as the feedback...

    First Semi Serious Mixing attempt.

Sounds like a good start. Right now very mono, and flat, but workable. I think you could spread the drums out a bit, and bring the vocals up a bit. My first reaction was that you were using an effect to make the whole thing sound like an old radio...I kept waiting for it to kick in. I am not...

New Song, dedicated to all the fathers out there

As I listen and get further into, the overall mix is nice, but from the start, I get a sense that the entire mix is a bit muffled. Some sort of EQ issue. I wish I could tell you more technically, but I can't...I am battling the same sort of problem with all of my mixes. There is a certain tonal...

SilentJ - Off the Hook - First Rough Mix

Thanks for the feedback y'all. I think the answer is definitive...re-track the drums.

SilentJ - Off the Hook - First Rough Mix

I am hoping we can get a chance to re-record with each drum into its own track, and then be able to do this. In the mean time, I've been trying to fake this using verb.

SilentJ - Off the Hook - First Rough Mix

The drums were recorded with a bunch of SM-57 knock off's that the band owns. I believe, we had two over heads, one on the snare, and one near the hi-hat all into one track, and then an SM-57 into the kick into one track. I then tried to EQ the hell out of all of it to isolate the kick a bit...

    New Song - Critiques?

I like the mix. Good recording, nice mix. The vocals might be a bit too far in front for my taste, but not too bad. The drums could come up a bit. The bass is money. I like the opening riff, but (as a guitar player) I'd messy it up a bit. Its too perfect, almost like you have a strict gate...

Looking for some feedback on this hardcore band's mix

I am a newb and hate everything I mix, so take my comments with a grain of salt... I feel like the each instrument is seperate from the others. There is no cohesiveness to the recording. The drums are far away, the guitars are separated. The vocals are buried. It sounds like a decent rough mix...

SilentJ - Off the Hook - First Rough Mix

Thanks. I had the same thought. When we recorded the drums we put it all on one track. So I tried to isolate the kick and the snare by isolating via EQ. We were just talking the other day about re-recording the drums.

SilentJ - Off the Hook - First Rough Mix

Hey guys...here is my first rough mix using Cakewalk. I have not yet recorded the bass line, but figured this was close enough to begin asking for feedback. Don't be gentle. http://silentjband.com/discography/ideas/SilentJ_Off_The_Hook_June_03_2009.mp3 Thanks in advance. BV.

    Mac/Garageband Anyone?

I have begun moving most of my work to Cakewalk, so I've run into this already. 1. Yes you can import. Literally drag and drop the mp3 or wav on to GB, and it will create a track for you. You can also import via iTunes. 2. When I export...what I do is make sure the tracks are unlocked. Save...

    Can anyone mix my track

I gave it a whack as well. This is a headphones only mix. I have not been home early enough to use proper monitors. LOL. http://darofamily.com/jeff/mixes/soulmotion1.mp3

Anyone interested to fix and mix my vocals?

I'll give it a go as well, if you post the files out there on the Internets. :)

    Need To Mix Someone Else

I am still learning the mixing process, and I find that I keep getting nowhere because I am hypercritical of my own performances, etc. I was thinking, it might be a nice exercise to mix someone else's material. Does anyone have any tracks they'd like mixed that I could experiment with? I am...

    When your ears get overloaded/hot

I find the only solution to this problem is walking away. And because disk space is relatively cheap, every day...I make a copy of my project before touching anything, and add the date to the mix. I try to burn a copy of whatever I finish with for the day to disc as well (or ipod). I've had off...

My Kingdom for a Proper Stereo Field

I've been experimenting with using delay and a simple stereo simulator (a fancy interface for a basic delay) to spread some of my tracks spatially. It is making a world of difference. IMHO, the quality of the overall recordings are now beginning to pop, their getting that ______ that to my ears...

What is mastering? and how do i do it?

Mastering? How do I do it? The way I answer that question...poorly and without a lot of effort, but that's just me. I've been learning the art of recording-editing-mixing-mastering for less than a year now, and it seems every song I work on gets better than the last one. I learn little things...

My Kingdom for a Proper Stereo Field

I know mathematically you are correct, but I find that sitting the car listening to tracks makes it a lot easier for me to discern overall quality. It seems when I am mixing in the studio, I sometimes over-bass...over-EQ...over-Reverb...in the car the mistakes seem to jump out. I've also found...

    Just Stereo Recording

This is perfect. I just downloaded it and tried it out. It's exactly what I need.
