    Keyboards in Studios

I am in the process of making my home "studio" more studio-ish so I've been paying a lot of attention to threads on this topic. One thing that I have noticed is that everyone seems to have a keyboard on their desk. I don't meant QERTY, I mean like MIDI/Piano. I am guessing everyone is not...

To Click or Not to Click

I've done something similar in the past. I create a scratch of guitars and vocals with a click, and then track drums, then go back and retrack the scratch. In our most recent non-click session, we ran the guitar into the board, seperated me from the drummer with a baffle, and recorded scratch...

To Click or Not to Click

In the past, I've been pretty militant about using a click, but in our current sessions, we are working on some songs that have a lot of tempo changes, and even with a proper tempo map, the feel was sounding unnatural...so we went natural. Its better, but not perfect.

To Click or Not to Click

Simple question with a complex answer...do you guys always use a click? Setup tempo maps...or just go at it live?

    My kinda Gothic

I think the recording quality is very nice. The synth's and piano sound fine to me, if not just a bit metallic. My only gripe on this track is the kick...its too prominent in the mix. I am listening to this now in headphones, and the kick is hurting my head.

    Feck It

I think the individual parts are a bit disjointed in the mix, but a little tweaking of the volume, and L+R placement, and you've got a money track here. Good tune, good recording quality. I wish I had your "lack" of talent. ;)

    "Illustrations" Rock Mix

Great tune, like it a lot. My two cents... The drums are awesome when the song gets rolling, but in the intro the kick sounds muddy to me. Later the kick is perfect. I am envious of the sound you got there for the entire kit. The guitars in the second mix sound much better, but I feel like...

    First Post and First Track

Guitars are nice. Kit sounds good. Female voice is awesome. The primary vocal is sitting out a way too far in the front. The hiss is too loud. My two cents. :)

    How do I...

While we're discussing this...can someone tell me how to get lots of hits on my web site about my cat? My cat is very cute, and I want lots of people to come to my site. Oh, and I don't want to be on Google, I just want people to see my cat.

An Idea to Help Us All?

Last.fm is hardly a piece of shit site, but I guess life is subjective. You can listen to tunes in different ways... 1. Go to http://www.last.fm/group/HomeRecording.com, and click the link for HomeRecording.com Group's Radio, and it will play music that is liked by anyone in the group. 2...

An Idea to Help Us All?

Last.fm is an Internet radio station similar to other stations. The best part is that it is very Indie friendly. You can upload your stuff for free, and get it in front of an audience. The downside of it, is that to get in rotation you need people to listen. To get people to listen, you need to...

Shoebucket - Standing in Front of Me

Here is new tune, my band Shoebucket, is working on. We tracked drums, guitar and bass. I am hopefully going to get vocals done this weekend. http://bit.ly/ahcn0U I am interested in your feedback on the mix. I am pretty happy with it, but I am always open to hear opinions on how it can be...

    Shoebucket - Five of Twelve

A few weeks back, the drummer and I were in the rehearsal studio. After a few hours of practice, we were just sitting there with the lights low, talking about the days work. We started diddling around with some chords, and forgot that we had the DAW in record mode. I was super happy to hear...

Do you need a drum module with Triggers?

I have a Q about triggers. Do you need to have some sort of drum module to use triggers? I thought I read somewhere that they could be used like microphones, and then then transients can be converted into midi data. Am I dreaming or is this possible?
