OK here's the revised mix. Give me an honest opinion. Better or not? https://www.box.com/shared/static/qox67sta4t2wlsrquqpg.mp3
OK thanks. Should I wear protection while I'm here?
I hope I didn't violate some kind of rule???
I've just about finished a new mix with a different kit. I put the same general beat in the chorus part because I agree with you. I like it to. It needs to keep moving. I'll post it shortly.
You're right. I hadn't noticed it was turned up to 100%. I backed it down to about 25%, as well as slowing down the curves, and it sounds way better. Thanks for noticing.
You know, listening again, I actually agree with you. The chorus part does fit the song, and actually pushes it along. The verses don't work though. Thanks for a contrary opinion.
Thanks for coming back to listen. Most people don't. The drums are samples from SSD4. I've got a ton of samples I can change to, so that's not a problem. I assume you're talking about the ride cymbal during the chorus parts. Easy enough to back it down. I'll look for some different...
No hate here. Thanks for the honesty. I never expected to nail it on the first, second, or even third try. Hard to think like a drummer. I've pulled together some similar commercial mixes to study the drum tracks. I think trying to copy real drummers is the way to go.
No offense taken. If I didn't want honest opinions, I wouldn't ask. Just what I want. You may have missed it from the original thread, but there's no real drummer or drums here. This is my first attempt at programming a drum track, so I'm trying to learn. Feedback is good if it leads me in...
Sounds better. You fixed the only glaring pitch problem from the first mix. The only other thing I might change is to cut some high end from your vocal reverb. It's slightly washy on the opening phrase. The rest of the song, it's not that noticeable. Nice song.
Thanks man. This is just the kind of feedback I was hoping for. I was kind of thinking the same thing. So I'll strip it down some more.
No, I think the girl is awesome. It's my ability to program a good sounding drum track that's on the exam table.
So here is the same song I posted earlier with a completely different drum track. I ditched the "disco on steroids" kit, and put on a brush kit. Better?

Here's a better mix with cymbals, hats, backed off some...
Thanks for your input. Are you sure you're not hearing the high hat hits that coincide with the kick in a lot of places? You can hear the kick alone in the intro without the high hat. It doesn't sound clicky to me by itself, does it to you? The original drum tracks in this were all sampled...
Nice family tradition. When the kids get married you should give each one a compilation CD of every year (they could torture their spouse with it later on). This is becoming a tradition here at homerecording.com as well. Happy holidays to you and your family, Gergopottomus
Yeah, would love to hear your thoughts. I thought things were tracked really well. The acoustic guitars sounded great. I pretty much left them alone. The vocals were the toughest to get right. I ended up tuning them. Thanks for posting. I don't get to mix drums much.
Hah, I thought this thread had died. There's a lot going on in this song, which really made it fun to mix. You took a different direction than I did in a couple of areas which really makes your mix quite different. I thought the kick in this song was horrible, so I replaced it. There's just...
