how to improve old cassette recordings?

Thanks for the input. I can see this is already getting over my head, and yr right- I'm not sure how much more I want to put into this. I don't know how the original was recorded. I used an old (but decent quality) Sony cassette deck into my Focusrite Scarlett interface and Sonar. Yes the verb...

how to improve old cassette recordings?

I use Sonar/Cakewalk plugs mostly . I don't see any NR plugs by that name. I don't usually need it. Maybe noise gates or compression? I hope I didn't increase noise uploading...I don't think so.

how to improve old cassette recordings?

Hi - I'm doing some work again for a friend, uploading old cassette recordings of a band to digital. I'm not getting very far improving the sound since the balance & quality (which is variable) are all locked in. He wants more verb & more top & bottom but everything I do of course affects all...

It's all good :) I do very occasional audio work for a friend & he pays me a few dollars...that's not being a professional.

    remove prerecorded reverb?

Wow lots of ideas. I don't want to spend anything - it's up to my client if he wants to spring for it, as I have no other use for it beyond this project - i'm not a professional.

    convert CD's to MP3

Hi guys - A friend wants to convert songs on her CD's to MP3's. She's not involved in recording otherwise i don't think. What would be the simplest (& hopefully free) way to do this? It seems like she would just record from the CD player into a basic DAW & export as MP3 - is that correct? If so...

computer set up - where to store audio files & samples?

Hi, long question... I'm not new but certainly there are gaps in my understanding. I use Sonar on a laptop with 1 terabyte hard drive. I use the same computer for all of the rest of my needs, ie all of my files are installed in the same HD. It works fine so far but Sonar is getting slower. And...

looking for very small pocket recorder

Hi guys - I just need something very small to dictate notes...sound quality not that important. I've been using a sansa clip mp3 player & it's great - about the size of a matchbook - but they only hold up about 2 years. Any ideas? thanks.

    Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro

Hi guys - I have lots of old projects in GT Pro that i import to finish in Sonar. I still do some work on them first in GT Pro , bec the workflow is so much faster. I tried to open Guitar Tracks Pro & it suddenly no longer works - no sound, no mix panel, & it crashes before i can check audio...

    drum machine/midi cables

It's a new focusrite interface & a very old Roland DR 5 drum machine. Interesting idea about spdif - I've never really understood what that is - just a matter of having the correct cables?? At any rate the drum machine doesn't have spdif jacks. The focusrite interface includes a software mixer...
