Sorry for the delay in response! It's been a busy holiday... I've tried that. It's just not enough to accurately hear the lows. The highs are even a little touchy there. And mixing with the faders that high is a bit tough. My Wharfie's are cranked. When mixing to -12 with a track recorded at...

If I record to -18 I can raise the playback fader until the cows come home and won't be able to hear it at all. The waveform on the track will be almost non-existant.

I think if your levels are too low AFTER you've recorded something then you should look at your recording process. A properly recorded track should not have to be normalized. After you've exported the finished song you should use compression or a good limiter to bring the levels up.
