3 post-writers block songs for the judgement of your ears

I Listened to the first song, very ethereal, and haunting (in a good way). Regarding writer's block, what works for me is - Don't start off with paper and pen (keyboard and DAW) and say to yourself, "I'm need to write a great song" Instead, un-pressure yourself by starting off by saying to...

    Good to Great

Good song, very pleasing to ears. The lead vocal could be pitch-corrected to get it into a more pro level. Also, the lead vox could go back into the mix, it's a bit to upfront, like you are singing to a karaoke program.

Wall - another rocker updated 3-19-18

For the lead solo, try panning to one side, then use a Haas effect to make appear a bit on the other side. Then bring up a bit.

    Moment - alternative rock

Lead vox could use a high self at 3k and up?

    "Roadstar" New Drums

Here's a cool trick that I have been using lately that makes panned cymbals in virtual drum sets I bit more real. If you have cymbals coming out of individual channels like I do, to be stereo summed later, use a Haas effect to put a bit of a delayed iteration of it in the opposite stereo field...

    Original song and greetings!

Sounds like your trying to get sonic elements of this song to pop out using compression and limiting on the 2 bus, when you probably needed to make that happen earlier in the chain. There is a bit of warble on the crash cymbal, and that is usually a sign of over-squashing the mix (and that...

Home Free - Orchestral "rock" type thing

Yea, I +1 Strat's comments re: mid-range heavy for about half of the instrumentation on this. I would first get rid of any unnecessary low frequency stuff that's going on with things like strings by using a high-pass filter, then using an eq dip that will attenuate the brassy-ness as well...

New Industrial Metal Song Mix Check Request

Good mix, overall. I would keep the kick and snare going, though, even through the breakdowns, if you want to keep it as a "band playing industrial metal", as opposed to one guy triggering Ableton Live. In other words, I would love to see how this would be played live at a show with people...

Last One In The Room - alternative pop, new mix

It's actually a popular move that came about predominantly in the 90's

Last One In The Room - alternative pop, new mix

You didn't want to go with the intro guitar panned to one side, and the ethereal synth on the other (with vox in the middle)? Good mix when it comes in, though!

    Southbound

Great "live" like recording, reminiscent of early Almond Brothers. I would downplay the snare a bit for two reasons: 1) A bit too upfront, 2) a bit sloppy. This song deserves a little bit better drumming, if you ever get a chance to re-track (or you could do some timing corrections if there...

    The Surface Of Things

Your snare brush sounds like a vst and mechanical - unless you are going with that effect, you might want too put a bit of tape saturation on it to make it sound more real (you could also put a bit of reverb on it, so it doesn't have such an abrupt decay time). Other than that nit-picky point...

3rd Metal EP Song - Critique Requested

Wow, no drum samples? The drum part gives the impression that it is, due to it's simplicity. Great guitar tones (you nailed that), but the vocals are pitchy, and could use pitch-correcting software, and the bass could have a bit of treble sheen on it (distortion) to make it pop out in the mix...

Ok, TM - let me work on that bass, and I might lo-pass those lead guitars
