    stereo imaging?

A stereo image, here you are: :) I don't know. This one looks much more like satire to me: https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=237549

I suppose, you're using this forum with a hardware-browser then? Well, congrats on that achievement. :D

How to name tracks when burning into CD?

I think, they do some hash of the TOC, since that is basic data, every drive can read. It is in fact not foolproof, thus sometimes, players let you select the correct album from a multiple choice. If you really need to know the exact method, download an open source player and look at the code...

How to name tracks when burning into CD?

For instace here: http://www.freedb.org/ or here: http://tracktype.org/ Exact Audio Copy supports both of them, and it can read CD-Text as well. Software players are usually preconfigured to use some data base, and you have to grant access in your firewall, of course, so choose a trustworthy...

How to name tracks when burning into CD?

You need a software and a burner supporting cd text. For the software, I use Exact Audio Copy which is also useful for accurate ripping. For the burner, any recent model should do, as raw 96 writing became pretty much standard.

Free STEVEN SLATE DRUMS Snare Sample!!

Does this mean, I can not even give a song away which includes the sample for free? I may not even copy it to my iRiver, as it only has flash RAM and no harddrive? I may not even burn it on CD and use it in a car stereo or a boom box? This is silly.

    cool edit pro freeware

Not exactly all versions, and not freeware either, but shareware. Though, Cool Edit 2000 is quite usable, even unregistered. The limitation is that you can not use all the effects in one session. You have to restart and select a different set of effects in order to use them. However, later...

Remixing - Where to find sources?

For vocal tracks, look here: http://www.acapellas4u.co.uk/index.php For other tracks, there is no such site, afaIk. Some bands like Nine Inch Nails and Chemical Brothers encourage fans to remix their songs and occasionally provide their multi tracks as free downloads. Also some DVD 5.1 tracks...

Concern over quality loss during editing/mastering

If you can, record your mixer output directly through a reasonable soundcard in 24 bit quality. For example, Terratec or M-Audio have good cards for little money. If this is no option, you have to convert your recording anyways since native DAT is 48000 Hz while CD audio is 44100 Hz (which is...

    Mastering software

The worst part is that many CD's actually sound like mastered that way. :(

    compression

Why not? A used one is much cheaper than the current AA, and CEP 2.1 is still quite usuable today. And of course, you can download a shareware of CE2K somewhere, which actually is somewhat usable, even unregistered. Older versions don't even have a time limit. The only limit was, that you can...

    compression

I'm not 100% sure, but I suspect that this was no option on 01-12-2000. CEP/AA underwent a lot of development since then. ;)

Track Level Vs. Mix Level & it's affect on headroom!

Did you apply the reverb during recording? You best restrict your effects to those the musicians have to operate while playing, during recording. All other effects are best added during mixing, since you can easily revert anything that doesn't work out as expected that way.

Track Level Vs. Mix Level & it's affect on headroom!

Do you have limiters or compressors on them? Those figures don't seem really dynamic. what times? Usually RMS is measured over the entire track. If this is not the case, you should state the time window which is measured (for instance, VU meters usually do 300 ms) If it's a distorted guitar...

Adobe Audition 3 soon to be released!

The upgrade price from any version is cool in deed. Too bad, it doesn't support Windows 2000. I'll definitely consider it on my next PC, then. I'm a bit puzzled about Soundbooth is available on Mac while Audition isn't. What's the point?

    Mastering with Adobe Audition

What mastering feature? Adobe Audition IS a tool for mixing and mastering. Anyways, since a perfect mix don't need any special care during mastering, it could well be the case that everything you need is convert to 44100 Hz (if applicable), normalize it, and then dither to 16 bit.

    NOT SPAM -turnmeup.org-

Then it's about time that mastering engineers found a union and demand reasonable dynamics. If the producers and artists don't comply, all mastering engineers shall go on strike. Eventhough, we need in deed some numbers to judge such things (for the sake of an industry-wide collective...

    NOT SPAM -turnmeup.org-

If that's all you need, then just put a sticker on the cover which tells the total RMS of that CD. I wish they actually would do that, as it would save me a lot of time finding out if a particular CD is listenable before I buy it. Sure, it's only a number, not telling much, but then again, if...
