In A State of PlugIN Purgatory

Got stuck back on SX2. Too lazy to do a freeze the long way. Missed out on the $50 upgrade to SX3, and now I think it costs like twenty grand to upgrade from SX2 to SXuendo or whatever it is now. And maybe you all can pool your resources together to provide me with a second card? I can...

In A State of PlugIN Purgatory

Yeah, I don't think I would even bother mixing in a DAW at all if I didn't have automatic latency compensation for the plugins. BTW, someone really needs to give me a 2nd UAD card. I don't like having to pick and chose what tracks get the good stuff. :D

    WHAT'S THE BEST MIC FOR...kidding....

Pres I believe were SCA A12's. Used many times with the Josephson C42's in various applications with no trouble. Typically I can crank them up as loud as I want without much worry about noise from the preamp. Although I will admit that my recording room doesn't exactly have the lowest noise...

    WHAT'S THE BEST MIC FOR...kidding....

One thing on the MSH mics -- they are noisy little beasts. I used them for some stereo room mics on an acoustic/vocal solo thing last week about 8-10ft from the player, and I couldn't bring the resulting tracks up in the mix as much as I wanted due to the self-noise of the mics versus the quiet...

how to get your audio loud without...

Well, I guess I can't argue with your logic. Although you must admit, the publicity would be great. Even better than the Slayer "no mastering" thing. MASTERED BY: 1,000 MONKEYS OVER THE COURSE OF 1,000 YEARS AT THOUSAND MONKEY STUDIOS.

    RMS question...

I have some Dorrough meters that work like this. And RME's TotalMix metering software works like this too. I'm sure there are others. Although maybe I'm confusing RMS with VU...I forget if there is a difference.

    EQ plugin

Nyquist EQ is kind of a cool freebie: http://magnus.smartelectronix.com/ Really forces you to use your ears rather than an exact Hz number or Q number. Not the best for all things, but nice sometimes.

    RMS question...

Or rather, how the digital converter building dudes calibrate your converters. Apparently there was no standard set that says 0dbu or whatever must read as -18db in a digital audio converter. That is a pretty cool diagram you dug up there, flatfinger.

    DSP Cards HELP!

Powercore is cool; I like the reverbs. But you have to pay a lot more for the good plugins. The stock compression/EQ is just "meh."

    DSP Cards HELP!

Well, at this point you can kinda think of the DSP cards as hardware dongles to be able to use their brand of plugins. A modern dual-core processor should be able to handle way more plugin processing than the dsp cards. Just ask Justin Frankel; he bought an 8 core system to mess with, and it...

    Fact or fiction?

Well, it won't make it easier to read, but it sure does bring out the fine details when putting the paper through a scanner! Technicians in the medical field have already been using a similar technology built-in to the scanners used for patient charts, doctor notes, etc.

    Fact or fiction?

Of course, I always demag my CDs and DVDs before use! The Tourmaline Negative Ion effect really does wonders too. And I think you will find this interesting: "Manufacturers had realized that demagnetization enhanced the capability of Software." I made sure to demagnetize my Cubase...
