me again, back on the cheap tele hunt

not trying to be funny, but, don't you do electronic music? what would even NEED an electric guitar for, out of curiousity?

    wall of sound

been mixing in mono, for no reason in particular, and was wondering how Phil Spectre pulled it off?! thoughts?

    Mackies or Behringers?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^this they're fraggin YELLOW, man! Mackie and Behri's ain't got nothin on the YELLOW.:D ...but I just use some old stereo speakers to mix on, so what do I know. now, what was the question again? just buy what you can afford, and if you don't like it, return it, sell it, burn it...

The coolest thing you ever picked up at a Garage sale?

yea. it doesn't look like too tough of a job, but the thing just feels so damn FRAGILE! I'm afraid it would crumble to dust if I look at it wrong. wanna buy a banjo? :D

The coolest thing you ever picked up at a Garage sale?

cool story! all I ever found was a Boss Chorus pedal sometime in the mid-90s. still use it tho. I found a Slingerland 4 string banjo, too, but the neck is coming apart fom the body. I think it's from the 40s or 50s, but I can't be sure. it might be worth some cash, but I'll never fix it sooo....

    snare crap

new mic are on the back burner ATM. I broke the hats and had to drop a good chunk o' change on some new ones. HHX something or other....infinitely better than the trash can lids we had before, but you get what you pay for

What is your favorite model/year Stratocaster?

I'll never understand you guys and your love of the Strat... they're great til you realize you'll never get a monster tone out of it...and the strings are too close together...and the volume knob is in the way...and they're noisy...and don't sit well on a strap...and... ...they do look nice tho

    Recording distorted guitars

I gotta back you on this one. I have the BV cab, and tho it's nothing stellar, it's LIGHT YEARS ahead of most other Crate garbage. I've done a few A/B comparisons with a low end Crate, a Randall something or other, and a Marshall something or other. my cab can hold it's own. the only thing I...

    parallel compression?...or not?

bummer, as this was the part I was most curious about. I assumed the distortion came from weird EQ interactions, so I left both tracks flat, initially. still sounded like poop, so I played around with some drastic EQing...poop. I haven't had a lot of phasing issues, so it's not second nature to...

    parallel compression?...or not?

was playing around, mixing some tracks earlier and came across something a little strange. just to see what it would sound like, I copied a guitar track and compressed the crap out of it, then brought it in slowly behind the original, uncompressed track. the louder I brought it up, the more...

    Schecter Pickups

bump just saw this or would have commented sooner. I have the Gryphon and my band mate has the Hellraiser. don't know if that is of the 'Plus' variety, but if not, I would assume they're still pretty similar. I personally like them. they're kinda growly and sound mean when pushed. a little...

need some recommendations for recording demos

why NOT use a DAW? are you just anti-computer recording? Reaper is just as user friendly(maybe moreso) as any standalone "studio-in-a-box" and it's really cheap. it's got all the bells and whistles included, and you could spend whatever money you save on a mic, interface, mixer, etc.

    snare crap

it's all just practice right now. I'm seeing what I can do with only three mics til I can get to a music store and get my hands on some actual drum mics. so far, bass, snare and room mics sound (mostly) promising...for some other style of music I have my eye on this Pyle Pro 7. never heard of...

    Getting the drum mix right.

great advice, and possibly the longest post I've seen Greg make since his drum primer(good read. check it out) also, THE PARAMETRIC SWEEP is super helpful. look it up. good bit of info on that little secret floating around these boards

    snare crap

he says he can't move it cuz it'll "mess him up". whatever. the cup trick helped a good bit, and I moved the mic to the outside of the hat and still managed to keep it out of his way. BUT... on closer inspection, the room mic picked up too much hat, also. he said he could back off a bit, and...

    snare crap

mine is set up about 1 1/2"-2" above the rim, pointed halfway between the rim and center...but as it turns out, the hat is just way too loud. I'm probably gonna have to find a different hat or muffle the crap out of the one we have.

    Drum replacement insight

meh....I don't think you'll ever see all those pop 'stars' on a plane together ala La Bamba. I think we missed the boat at the last Woodstock. is Family Values still going on? maybe Warped Tour? perhaps we can still save rock n roll

    Any suggestions for mics?

screw it. I'm on the market too. accoustic drum mics. prefer a package deal. $200-300 range
