Need some live, basement recording advice

All, I and my fellow band mates need to record 4 songs to submit to a local rock search contest. Since the entry is due by 10/01, we don't have enough time to record track by track and mix. Our only option is to record the stuff live. Which is okay; all they need is to be able to hear you...

Steve, Here's one a friend and I put together this past Saturday. There's not drums or bass yet but it'll give you an idea. http://www.john7bonney.com/mp3/midnight081603.mp3 We have recorded drums before using the 2 mics we have and it sounds marginal. I think for drums you really need a...

    Tascam us-122

I used the copy of Cubasis that came with the US-122. So far that's the only program I've used with it so far.

All I can say is listen to the recording I posted above. What you hear is what you get. Keep in mind that was my first shot at the thing and I'm sure there's room for improvement. Anyone else have a us122 recording they can share?

    Tascam us-122

The song I posted was made with the us122 and a Marshall MXL603s condensor mic (using the phantom power supplied by the us122)... That's it! Sounds pretty good to me.

Nachohinojosa, 1. Recording is all going to depend on how you mic everything. The us-122 is simply acting as a conduit for your music from the mic to the PC. Now, keep in mind the us-122 only has 2 inputs, so if you wanted to record your whole band with just the us122, you 'd either have to...

    Tascam us-122

It has zero latency direct monitoring. Works very well.

    Tascam us-122

I don't have anything to compare it to but they seem pretty good. I just finished a song using a Marshall MXL603s and the TASCAM us122 if you want to check it out and see for yourself. Both the guitar and vocals were recorded thru the mic. http://www.john7bonney.com/WildBruskanStarfish.mp3

    My very first recording.... Weeeeeeee!

Thanks Thanks for the feedback guys, all. Chad, you really picked it apart well. Very much speak sing (I like that kind of style), and yeah, all the vocals were done by me (except for the "sock it to me" line, that was my wife). I've been wanting to get a better guitar take. The current one...

    My very first recording.... Weeeeeeee!

A buddy of mine just went thru a divorce (he got the shaft) and is finally to the point where he is ready to start dating other women again. Since he's on the rebound, he's willing to take anything just to get his hands dirty and work the bugs out of his game. There's this woman in our circle of...

    Tascam us-122

Have no fear 44runner! I can't vouch for the mic you chose (I went with the Marshal mxl603s), but that seems to be a pretty common all purpose mic. Remember, the Tascam comes with a copy of Cubasis, so you don't *need* the Acid software to record and add effects. Have fun, and let me know how...

    Home recording

Not with the us-122, it only handles 2 inputs at a time. You would want a similar device with more inputs, or record your band 2 tracks at a time.

The us-122 IS the sound card essentially. Think of it as an external sound card.

    Tascam us-122

NP State, There's (2) microphone inputs (phantom powered by the way!), and (2) 1/4" inputs paired together, and a switch to flip between the 2. In otherwords, there's a "Left" and a "Right" input, each have a mic and a 1/4" connection, and each have a switch for either "Mic" or "guitar." So...

    Home recording

You're computer is pretty dated. If you can't afford a new one, at least increase the RAM to as much as the PC will hold. If you want to do any kind of decent recording, you'll want to invest in a better sound card or USB device, and possibley a microphone. You'll be able to plug your guitar...

    Tascam us-122

Be happy to help State, I'm quite a newbie myself (though I've been researching alot) and I gotta tell you, this thing is easy as pie. You don't even need an existing sound card. The device is esentially an external sound card. You would continue to use your existing card for games and stuff...

Whoooaa, easy there tiger. No need to get all fired up. Take a deep breath and count to 10 next time. Thanks Sport!

Or the Tascam us-122 perhaps... http://www.tascam.com/products/computer_recording/us122/index.php No, I don't work for Tascam.
