    recording studio help!!

I guess you could use Powerbook as your DAW, but the question is why? Are you really going to do so much mobile recording that a laptop is absolutely essential? In even if you are, in my experience you have to lug so much outboard gear with you anyway that one laptop won´t make a big difference...

It was the latter one, C419. Thanks!

    Gimmi Some Snap!...

I was recording a drummer with a piccolo snare (or soprano or whatever they call it. It´s small anyway) few months ago and had hard time to get enough top end with SM57. However, the drummer had his own AKG clip mics and I tried one of them with the snare. I was very pleased with the results. I...

    Beginner who can't get anywhere...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Beginner who can't get anywhere... This is getting way off-topic but I can´t resist....I am sorry but I must (most humbly) disagree here. If you are poor (like me), you must carefully plan your purchases, keeping the big picture in your mind all the times. If you don´t want to...

    Beginner who can't get anywhere...

Re: Re: Beginner who can't get anywhere... Yes... but on the other hand, a better (and expensive) soundcard isn´t much of use if you don´t have any money left for software :D

Piltdown Man here... Question: Really Home Recording?

I have one (1) room (and a small kitchen and a tiny toilet with a shower). My whole life is in this one (1) room: I sleep, I eat, I entertain my guests and I make love (about once in two years or so) here. All my clothes, books, CDs, DVDs, computers and musical instruments are kept here, even my...

    Karaoke w/ Sonar & softsynths

Re: Re: Karaoke w/ Sonar & softsynths How would I do that? I´m a bit novice with MIDI routing and stuff, since I work mostly with audio.

Where to buy in EU? Swedes take notice!

Extremely tempting, I must say! I´m pretty much all booked up next 4 months or so (workin´, giggin´, recordin´, practisin´and boozin´) but maybe next spring is a possibility. Just few weeks ago I was actually talking with my friends how cheaply you can fly to London nowadays, thanks to all those...

    Live Sound Question.

You will need pretty hefty speakers (not to mention amplification to go with it) to reproduce the whole band, a biamped two-way system would be preferable. Some native English speaker can explain what that means...;) I would suggest you get compact full range cabs (12" or 15" and horn) and use...

Where to buy in EU? Swedes take notice!

Fellow Europeans! Please share your information about online music stores that ship all around EU (or Finland at least). I´m particularly interested in places that sell Studio Projects, Oktava, FMR and like. It´s frustrating to read about all this stuff when its nowhere to be found on this side...

    Karaoke w/ Sonar & softsynths

Okay (*takes a deep breath*)... I like MIDI karaoke (you guys back there, stop laughing). It´s fun and it´s a great way to practice singing. And it´s great drinking activity too. The problem is that despite excessive searching, I haven´t found a MIDI karaoke player that would support software...

    Basic Live setup............

Don´t know about FX and all, but the most important question is:how big venues are you going to play at? I know some people think that there is no such thing as "too big", but a 100w head and 4x12 is going to be a pain in the butt in all but the largest arenas. You won´t be able to crank it up...

    I need horns!

Heh... no exact translation comes to mind right now. I guess "tweaking small (even insignificant) details" is quite near. It´s mostly used in slightly negative context, like: "Stop that f**ing ´nysväys´ and concentrate on big picture." Or something.

    I need horns!

Re: Cool! Talk about it! I think the "breath factor" is main reason why brass and other wind instruments are so difficult to sample. It´s like sampling the human voice. Maybe physical modelling can some day achieve decent emulation...but even then you would propably need some sort of breath...

    I need horns!

Re: Re: I need horns! I live in Helsinki and that would be cool! However, it´s not a job for today or even tomorrow since I´m busy as hell right now. Maybe in november...I´ll PM you. That´s absolutely true, but I think I can get a pretty good bunch of players together for this project. And...

    I need horns!

Funny, most people remember only Finnish curse words. Kudos to you!:) Don´t know about Louis´ sax sound, but I sure would like to have sampled his trumpet, let alone his voice...:D

    I need horns!

Yeah, I have played in that big band for 8 years and I still often feel completely clueless in the mysterious world of horns. Maybe I need more practice. But I still think most synth horns sound pretty cheesy; I´ve heard some semi-decent trombones, but trumpets and saxes (especially...

    I need horns!

Haya! I would like to hear your recommendations for a good horn sample libraries/softsynths. I´m looking for soul/jazz horns: trumpets, trombones and saxes of all sizes. They would be used mainly as arranging help. I play in a big band and I can get good players to do the final parts if...

    Performance issues with plugins

Argh! That´s what you get when you take advice from anybody: I had decided to get an Intel processor to avoid compatibility issues and my friend at work said that Celeron is "just as good as genuine Pentium, P4 is essential only in some special applications". I guess homerecording is a special...

    Performance issues with plugins

Re: Re: Performance issues with plugins Um... I don´t know the official definition for "low latency" but I don´t think >200ms fits that bill. That´s how high I have to set it to play back that 25-track song (let´s call it the "Work Not In Progress") and even then I get dropouts every now and...
