Hey Monty,
Is that the little hand-held one that played that monotonous tune on autoplay . . . you know, dum dum .. dum dum .. dum dum . . da da .. da da da da da da.
My little sister used to have one of those and I always wanted to hit her over the head with it.

Pop Filter - A screen placed in front of or over a microphone that reduces the effect of speech plosives and wind.
Speaking or singing directly into a mic often creates unwanted sibilance (an exaggeration and distortion of high-frequency "S" sounds), pops from plosive sounds (words with...
As it turns out, the audio engineer Dr. X talked to may have been right after all.
It's interesting that while reading Bob Katz's article on Jitter, I found this statement :
"I've also observed that a 4X-speed SCSI-based CDR copy sounds inferior to a double-speed copy and yet again inferior to...
The CAD E-100 for $80 is a good buy. I had one I paid $129 for. I liked it alot, but got a bid for $160 on Ebay and sold it to buy an AKG C1000. Wish I had kept the E-100.
I've also got a CAD95 small condenser that sounds pretty nice . . . they make good mics.

By mix down, I assume you mean combine the MIDI and audio as stereo tracks ? If yes,
first, you have to create digital track(s) out of your Midi by soloing each midi track and playing/recording it to a new digital track. Then you can mix it all.

Multiply it by 1.5 :D seriously though, it can't be done. Yeah you could physically run the 16bit D/A through 24bit A/D again, but you'd still have 24bit - 16bit sound . . . make sense.
It's like taking a JPG image file thats low resolution and trying to make it high resolution. You can't go...
Do you have a new computer with ATA 66 controller ? Check this out from a FAQ sheet.
QUESTION: Where is the "DMA" checkbox for the HDDs in Win9x?
ANSWER: The "DMA checkbox" that you’re referring to will not appear for any HDD connected to the an ATA/66 interface, the feature is...
Well, I read the Bob Katz article on compression, dithering, and his PDF document "The Secret of the Mastering Engineer" and then sonusman's piece above. The dithering article, where digital word length and normalizing were talked about, got me to really thinking. I always thought that...
OK, Ed, you've convinced me that I'm wasting my time with normalization . . . you're above novel and the digido.com material. But, since I won't be dithering with Cakewalk anytime soon,is the best answer for us soundblaster and SM57 users to learn proper input settings and EQ techniques . . ...
I'd say the fastest 7200 RPM HD you'll find will run about . . . oh . . . say, 7200RPM :D
But, seriously, all 7200 RPM drives that I know of are mode 3 or 4 ATA 66 and are backward compatible to ATA 33. How old is your motherboard ? Pre-98 ?
Maybe some more help from the SlackMaster is in...
Normalization isn't cheap compression because it isn't compression at all. It is a form of limiting, however, in that it looks at the waveform for the highest given Db peak and raises it to 0Db (limit) without clipping. The rest of the waveforms amplitude is raised by the same ratio.
This is...
I've found that using compression during recording for Vocals, bass & acoustic guitars helps even out the signal . . . no peaks and valleys in volume. This helps !
For PC multitracking, I get better volume consistency by normalizing my final mix's stereo tracks rather than using compression...
So, don't let the Roland VS-880 collect dust. Sell it on Ebay ( $1,100 to $1,200 ) and use the money to upgrade your DAW ( i.e. - new soundcard, faster HD, RAM, mixer or preamp )
Just a suggestion.

I'll try to make this as brief & concise as possible, but, I thought some of you guys might benefit from what I learned. Since I'm starting to record 24 bit & more audio tracks, I decided an upgrade was in order, for my PC , a Dell PII 400.
For $300 I purchased and installed three items :
1...
Mutt21,
You're going to need a preamp going from guitar to the sound card . . ART or other.
That's $100 minimum. You'll need it to mic for vocals anyway. If you shop around you can find a POD for $250-$275. Then you'll want a better mic . . . a compressor . . . a mixer, then more mics . . a new...
Nice arrangement & vocals . . . maybe stick a heavy lead in there to stretch it out a bit, otherwise, hey . . . I liked it. Nice Job!

To put it simply, a quality 24bit card will introduce less noise and crosstalk during the recording / mixdown phase of your project . . there is more fidelity to the music.
Therefore, when you do finally cut that CD or MP3, the results should be better quality 16bit sound at a 44,100Hz sample...

Assuming you are going EIDE, you're going to pay about $200 for the HP . . . about right?
I'd pay an extra $60 and get a YAMAHA
24x/8x/4x EIDE. They are going so fast that
Buy.com has problems keeping them in stock.
There is a reason for that . . . you know ?
Six months from now, when...

I assume you have a keyboard or other external device hooked up to the I/O of one end of the cable and the 15 pin plug into your sound card's MIDI/Joystick port.
In Cakewalk, go to "options" - "MIDI devices" and move your input device to the top. Cakewalk should have it listed. If this...

Some nice pickin' going on there ! Never listened to much Reinhardt, although I've read a little about him . . . Brian Setzer (Stray Cats )must have though . . . I was hearing Stray Cats in this tune.
From the sound of things, you got a career in music ahead of you . . . good luck to you...
