What to finish a strat with?

Yeah,, Mutt, I've never seen ash that looks like that, with the parallel grain and, especially, the flaming. Maybe some sort of a blue burst with a bit of black applied first and then sanded back to really make the grain pop? Whatever you do, I can't wait to see the finished result.

    Recording 4 x 12 distorted

Yeah, nothing about the guitars sounds too bad to me here. A bit 80s, but not in a bad way. The rest of the mix could use some work and a bit more time balancing the overall levels would help a lot. Playing's pretty good too, by the way. :)

    Muttley's Custom LP Guitar Build

Absolutely stunning! I was comparingh it to this picture, particularly the mahogany back, and it does look like the clear has tinted a little bit as its aged - IMO, to the betterment of this guitar. :)

Holy hell, man, that looks gorgeous. Looks like the colors have deepend over time, as well, or is that just the better camera?

My debut CD "Zero Mantra" is finally finished - instrumental rock guitar

Yeah, you're probably right - he seems to be doing well enough financially, he's respected by his peers, and I don't know a single player who's heard him who doesn't think he's got one of the best tones they've ever heard. He's like Eric Johnson with more rock and roll. thenymph thanks, glad...

know a good guitar amp for a heavy rock tone?

Shred is effing awesome, though. :D I freely admit it's a LOT more fun to play than to listen to, if you're not already into it. And I don't really have any illusion of making a living as a musician, so whatever. :D

My debut CD "Zero Mantra" is finally finished - instrumental rock guitar

Yeah man. If you ever get a chance to catch a clinic he's playing, do it. Super chill guy - you're probably right, and additionally he's not bitter about the fact he never achieved more success, I think.

They's tone is ridiculous, isn't it? He's also probably the nicest guy in the business I've ever met. Albany, NY? Man, I hate to be the bearer of bad news... But Minnemann and Govan won't be on the US tour, since they have an Aristocrats tour the same time. :( I'll still g, I figure, but I was...

know a good guitar amp for a heavy rock tone?

I'll agree to a point - the biggest difference between a 50 and 100 watt head, and a 25 and a 50, and a 15 and a 25 etc, is not going to be volume (the extra dB you're getting out of them isn't that huge), but the headroom. For some things, less headroom isn't a bad thing. If you're playing in a...

My debut CD "Zero Mantra" is finally finished - instrumental rock guitar

Oh good lord, can I even tell you how much fun I'm having working on NEW material that hasn't been part of my life for ten years? :laughings: Thanks guys - I definitely appreciate all the feedback, and furthermore you guys sticking around to answer questions that I'm asking. :) Man, isn't...

know a good guitar amp for a heavy rock tone?

I have a huge soft spot for, well, pretty much anything Mesa... but the new Peavy 6505 20-watter looked pretty cool, and the video footage I've seen of the Soldano Hot Rod 25 in action had me floored. Of course, the Soldano is a $2k 25 watt head, so it's in a slightly different league... :laughings:

My debut CD "Zero Mantra" is finally finished - instrumental rock guitar

Thanks guys! Out of curiosity re: songwriting, how many of you normally listen to instrumental stuff like this? I.e, how much of it is just genre related ("where's the singer?") and how much is just the songwriting could be stronger? I mean, ideally I want to get to the point where you don't...

    Hammerjammer-What next?

Looks like it actually does require a fair amount of picking hand dexterity to use. It sounds a lot like "touchstyle" tapped/slapped guitar, especially on an acoustic. I don't know if it opens possibilities that that approach normaly wouldn't allow or not, but...

know a good guitar amp for a heavy rock tone?

Maybe... but, do that same experiment since, say, 1995, and you get a Mesa Rectifier. ;) Really, especially as all-tube "lunchbox" heads have been coming into fashion, there's a lot of great options out there, some even falling within his budget A few are Marshalls, but a whole bunch are not...

My debut CD "Zero Mantra" is finally finished - instrumental rock guitar

:laughings: That is probably a backhanded insult, and certainly reads like an unintentional one if it isn't, but to answer your question... ...no, I'm not. I by and large like my day job, I'm good at it, and it pays well enough that it's hard to imagine the level of success I'd need to achieve...

know a good guitar amp for a heavy rock tone?

Right on, man, thanks! Yeah, idunno what it was, but it was old as fuck, pretty beat up, and sounded fucking glorious. The studio website mentions a "Super Lead 100" and while my memory is hazy from this summer it looked a lot like what the 1959 Plexi reissues look like, just about 60 years...
