depending how much you want to spend...
id look at an api lunch box with 2 512cs and 2 five fish studios
that would give you 4 channel
hell you could probobally put in a really cool used compressor as well and be in the price range of a 737
look at a distressor, or a dbx 160
well the 737 is a super clean and smoother pre
the john hardy, api, neveish, five fish studio sound are a little more colored in the the mids.
the john hard pre amps have always sounded really tight to me in the low end
the api pre amps are killer on rock drums
also with the 737 i believe...
John Hardy rocks!
so does Five Fish Studios
and of Course API
i've been really loving the api lunch box concept.
mix and match pre-s eq and compressors.
try all 3 and add in an
SM7B, MD421, SM57, u47 FET,
The last kit I recorded I used a D112 inside the drum a D6 towards the outer head.
and I drumagog the majority of both
:)
There are two reasons why I use pro tools
SIMPLE Compatibility with Pro Tools HD
SIMPLE Compatibility with AVID system
though I will admit the 003 rack is decent all around.
convertors are clean and flat, clock is decent, pre's are clean and hi gan. hpf is clean.
simple support for...
I dunno dudes. I've owned an MPA-Gold for a few years and a Pro VLA. The Pro VLA uses it's tube in the make up gain stage. I had the 12AY7 go out on me once. the output gain turned to shit.
The MPA Gold when pushed over drives like a tube. Both are ART products....my vintechs and presonus...
I am looking for a compressor in the $400 dollar range.
My use for this would be vocal tracks. I am looking for something with moderate compression settings. I have the API plugins which I like a lot. I Would like to find something to help me get me more consistant levels going into my DAW...
I always thought the adams sounded toooooooooo good
I had a hard time with my mixes on them translating well.
The room I was mixing in was somewhat small as well.
define the noise?
it might be a bad cap/caps
are there any tubes in those beasts?
i've never ripped one apart. but man do they sound awesome when they work.
but where is this $5,000 an hour studio?
are their faders made of gold?
it's certainly not Abbey Road, any LA Studio, NYC, or Chicago joint?
Perhaps on the moon, zero gravity recording
total isolation.
sorry, i couldn't resist
md421's rock on a lot of things
kick drum, toms, guitar amp, bass amp, vocals, horns
just picture a good sounding 57, that's an md421
also the EV cardinals rock as well.
