how to connect several midi devices to 1 PC with DAW?

...should I use only USB or only MIDI on each device (not both)? e.g. would plugging both midi and USB into the keyboard at the same time cause an 'issue'/glitch of some kind or are they happy to work together (in unison)? cheers!

ableton DAW, are more vst's necessary e.g. N.I./NKS partners?

...but what if you're deliberately looking for an artificial drum sound like the Roland 'TR's' in rave/trance? ...and what about 'Studio Drummer'/kontakt? Natural?

how to connect several midi devices to 1 PC with DAW?

No, the keyboard does have USB as well. Also, the person that sold me the 'POD' said I need midi for patch transfer (not USB)?

ableton DAW, are more vst's necessary e.g. N.I./NKS partners?

I have the ableton DAW (not used yet!): The N.I./NKS vst's samples sound amazing! ...however they are expensive! Do I really need them in addition to what the DAW it self has to offer? e.g. 'JAEGER'. :listeningmusic: ...can the same music be generated just with the DAW alone? ...are they...

Sorry! ..must have missed the bit about the Imac. Yes, USB is the way to go for PC, I think firewire is largely redundant now-a-days? I agree that if he does loads of live music with several 'real' instruments simultaneously then a mixer is also needed, but not for my limited contact with...

Consider this: MAKE YOUR SPACE A STUDIO. Scarlett 18i20 sits at the heart of more music-making, recording and production spaces than any other range, and 18i20 is Scarlett’s most versatile interface. The rack-mountable 18i20 gives you 18 inputs and 20 outputs of incredible sound quality...

You don't need any of those mixers! The D.A.W. does all that stuff! You need an audio interface like Focusrite. Virtually all old style analogue mixers only have a 2/2 USB interface from the master tracks on a mixer, the exception is the Soundcraft Signature 12/22 MTK, but even then it only...

Yes the diagram is the same as mine! I will be having a look at the line 6 manual to see how to connect it to a PC. As for 'dad', well he died 20 years ago when I was forty. many thanks!

won't the 'line 6' simply pass the guitar signal to the headphones/speakers (line in - line 6 - line out)? how does the PC/DAW interact with this setup? won't the PC be ignored? cheers!

So, if I have a PC/DAW sending output through USB, what equipment is available with a 1/4 inch headphone jack and balanced XLR speaker outputs, plus say at least 2 mic/instrument inputs? ...can't find any audio interfaces with the XLR outs?

PC is no problem as I have been putting them together since 1995. But what is all this with using 2 or 3 monitors with a DAW? How does that work, never been down that route before! Isn't one screen enough? cheers!

I suppose it's connecting all my boxes up that worries and puzzles me most of all? And, does the interface remove the need for an internal PC sound card? i.e. it's an external sound card but has better input and an output for active monitors?
