    Fostex 2412

I have the chance to buy a Fostex 2412 Mixer locally. Everything working, and it used to be the console in studio b at the local university. (Quoting the seller, as I have not seen it myself yet.) He bought it from them, and hasnt used it for about a year. How much should I be willing to pay...

Akai's reel-to-reel 'Sound On Sound' function

According to a experienced engineer here in Norway, on Tandberg recorders, the "sound-on-sound" feature allows you to bounce one track to another, while overdubbing with a microphone or instrument. The overdub will play back slightly delayed, due to the distance between playback and recording...

    Have Mixer or Mixerless?

Analog Mixer-> Analog Multitracker (-> DAW If I go over 8 tracks)->Analog Mixer -> (Mostly) Digital Mixdown I hardly ever do digital summing anymore. No matter what, it doesnt sound right, and I use weeks to finish a mix. Ive gone more towards finishing a mix when I start it, rather than...

    Anyone tried Studio To Go?

Which distro did you use? Was it "pre set up" with Alsa and Jack, or did you include it yourself? Amen to that!

    Anyone tried Studio To Go?

My experience is that with a little patience and TLC it works stable and well. There are several studios that runs only on Linux. Why recommend someone staying away from progress? There are many reasons Linux DAW could be unstable. Altho it runs "out of the box" one must make sure that the...

    Anyone tried Studio To Go?

You are welcome. Im kind of new to Linux DAW myself, but one has to share what one has found out. I have seen so, it wasnt like that some time ago. But they give a good excuse for it, and promise to have it working soon. I bet they are working to hard on the dist to have the time to update the...

    Anyone tried Studio To Go?

I recommend that you try the Live-CD version of Agnula if its still available. If both distros dont load, you probably have some hardware that needs work. Best supported cards are RME and Maudio. (And soundblaster Live/EMU10K1-cards). A great place for info is http://www.linux-sound.org/ At...

    Anyone tried Studio To Go?

I have installed Agnula, 64Studio, Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Dynebolic, and all of them had a similar, easy to understand setup procedure. Ubuntustudio is coming soon as well (I hope.. It should come this month, but has been delayed). As for the software, I can tell you that Rosegarden is a good...

    Hammonds, Rhodes and Mellotrons?

After another listen to "Judy goes on Holiday", I hear a synth portamento towards the ending. Wrong song, sorry. Its still a faboulous listen tho.

    Hammonds, Rhodes and Mellotrons?

I believe its possible to make the tonewheels slow down to half pitch. Not that I would do such a thing on mine. (Even the M100s are quite expensive here, and mine is in pretty sweet condition). As for Supersister.. If you have or can track down their album "Pudding and Gisteren", listen to the...

    Hammonds, Rhodes and Mellotrons?

I believe its distorted (external amp/ stomp box?), and probably ran through a phaser (and a leslie on chorus?). Wild guessing here.... Supersister often uses a similar sound (without the phasing) and Ive always thought that they just ran the organ into a overdriven guitaramp and skipped the...

    Hammonds, Rhodes and Mellotrons?

Wow! You made the T Tube driven?! Thats pretty sweet. I own a M100 myself, and it sounds much better with some tweaking. (Adjusting Pre-amp level and percussion cutoff). Do you have any recordings of your modified T? Id be very keen to hear it with tubes in. As for Hammond sounds, I havent...

    Hammonds, Rhodes and Mellotrons?

Sampled mellotrons will sound a lot nicer if you dump them to analog tape. My experience is that wow and flutter and even tape dropouts can be quite desirable. I run my Mellosamples through an old portable r2r in rather bad condition. Tubes preamps help as well, but solid state guitar amps...

    Laptop picks up radio channel?

I had a Inspirion 5100 myself, and the output was extremely noisy. But if the radio is only hearable while hookep up to a hifi, you could try a better shielded cable. Or a new USB Audio interface. They should be very cheap if you dont plan to do real time multitracking on it.

    changing tempo of tracks

Yes. Lower samplerate=lower quality. It works well on single tracks, but it has never even crossed my mind to do something like that on a whole mix. Record over or stick with it is my advice :)
