Re: You know how a dog will look at you and sometimes cock his head from side to side?
Yeah, it's kinda like asking for resilient channel...
Commercial insulation suppliers carry the stuff. I don't think they come in "panels" per se unless you get the black backed theatrical boards. They...
Tube,
Cool link there! Just picked out the colors for my new place with it... I'll be painting right after the holiday so that was great timing. Thanks! Your room should look sweet with the colored auralex up as well . I've done some rag/sponging effects michael is talking about. very easy...
An updated link for the above mentioned boxes.
I've put a few up and caulked the backs. Will let you know how they fair after the resilient and double drywall is up, hopefully later this week...
If you gotta cut into the walls, Carlon makes an adjustable zip box that can be adjusted for proper depth once all the wallboard is up, to a depth of around 2" out from the studs. You can get them at home depot in one, two gang and floor units as well.
here's a link to look at them...
hey rick- take a clearer picture of that console for us when you get a minute. I'd like to see the details you've mentioned. Looks very well designed and workable.
brads sound good. As another option, I've hung heavier frames on the wall by predrilling the frames and using long drywall screws right through the fabric. Start them through the fabric by hand then watch for snags. Finally, home depot sells plastic caps that push into the heads of the drywall...
Can I join the club? <start violin music >> my stuff's been piled high in the basement and everywhere else since i moved out of my last studio space in february ( ugh) I've got mics and bass traps loaned out to all my buddies. The only bright side is I'm currently getting my ya ya's out...
Presque Isle.. wow, even to people from maine that is up in the sticks. about 5 hours north of me. To put it in perspective for those of you on the east coast: to get there you go to the END of interstate 95, hang a left and drive yet another hour. You'll be greeted by rolling potato fields...
At best you will be revered a champion of acoustics, at worst thought a fool. Hmm, such dire consequences... I say, carry on brave traveler! ( Your friend may very well believe the earth is flat as well)
the filter will, generally, tame the plossives without regard to how close it is to the mic. So, I gauge placement by how close i want the vocalist to the mic, 'cause they'll only get so close to the panty hose. :-)
I'm researching multipair cabling for my studio and getting confused by all the specs concerning OHM ratings. I know some of my mics are rated in the 50 -100 ohm range, and the multipairs are roughly in the same range.
SO, what do these figures actually mean to me in terms of sound and should...
My observation, and it is merely that, is that if you drywall the back side it will in essense create a small drywalled room with inherent volume, modes, and resonances of it's own. We all know what an empty, fully drywalled room sounds like and i wonder what that might impart on your conrol...

check out the bottom of the page on this link..It would seem that leaving the backside open allows for higher STC rating
Mike,
wow, what a cool place!
I'm planning on floating a hardwood floor over the existing subfloor with 2x4's on neoprene.
do you suppose there is full access to those cable ducts in the floors after they install the cable and put the floor down?
Frederic,
I'm planning wall plates in each room, including the control room, with multipair snake running in wall or floor back to console area. I like the trough cover idea. Maybe I'll combine the ideas and make a floor box with a removable flooring panel cover ( that's well sealed) where...
I've got three rooms to connect with snake cabling: the control room, iso booth, and amp room. Basically, I'll have three multipair cables coming to the mixer, a few Cat5 cables and perhaps a coax. I'm putting a hardwood floor in the control room and am wondering what solutions you guys have...
