    One room or two?

In my two room place, I have a similar sized control room and opted for keeping it one large room rather than slice off space for an iso booth. . Very happy I did. I put 4 headphone stations around the room, and I don't mind overseeing any tracking with headphones if necessary. I have some gobos...

    Iso booth/ room divider

The dark stuff is cloth over what i thought to be about 1" fiberboard ( on each side of the gobo ). The whole unit was about 6" deep. They obviously are not for total isolation, but if you're recording a whole band you can put a acoustic guitar behind one for some extra separation, and maybe...

    Help--Wall Construction

If you're concerned about getting the resilient hung right, you could consider a staggered stud wall of 2x4's on a 6" sill . You could eliminate the RC and it would add only 1" to the overall thickness of the wall proposed wall. Without going back to check exact figures, I'm pretty sure a...

    What musical instruments....

Considering what you already have, expect them to bring their own and go for gear! You can have simple stuff that makes their own instruments sound better- high quality direct boxes, preamps, compressors, etc. They'll be happy and so will you. Of course, appropriate mics go without saying...

    client billing/studio rates

Call me an arrogant capitalist, but, I could have NO overhead and not want to provide a complete studio with engineer for $10/hr. That a hard way to gross $80 a day! Unless of course you're calling it charity work or doing it for good friends. Aside from the fact that you are a qualified...

    client billing/studio rates

well, let's look at this another way. Packages are a good, ballpark figure, way to get people coming into your studio, or at least calling you. You'll have something to advertise other than your usual rates! Think of the $1.99 breakfast. it brings people in the door. It gets you coffee, 1...

    Soffit?

What are the reasons for soffit installs John? Is there anything beyond the coupling effects- like perhaps imaging etc. that you like about it? Also, seeing Sjoko2's room, I wondered- how big does the soffit have to be to be effective? His obviously don't extend to the room boundries... It...

    Absorber Positioning??

either way will work. Flipping them over is also likely to give you some extra diffusion from the sides of the panels, as compared to the flat walls. If you plan on moving them at all, you might just as well make them as multipurpose as possible.
