    my project studio plans:

how could I forget about mixing??? MIXING: (I almost forgot) - My bedroom has a slanted ceiling and I think because of that it would be a decent place to mix. I know comforters on the walls will only go so far but its gonna have to do for now. I'll probably get a cheap set of yamaha studio...

    my project studio plans:

I've been contemplating for a month or so how I'm gonna set up my low budget recording rig and I'm just looking for some opinions of what yall think. First of all, the hub of all of this will by an Aardvark Q10. I will probably be using CubaseVST as my recording software. Its gonna be set up at...

    bumping bass

does anyone know how I can get some system bumping bass outta Reason (similar to Easy E's "Boys In Tha Hood")? I know the old fasioned way of doing it (with the gate with the kick drum connected to the key trigger and a pure bass tone from a synth running through the gate). Is there a way I can...

Rock/Punk fans, check out my band

wow thanks for the replies, guys and gals! I really never even noticed this thread existed til a few days ago... Rest assured, when I get back to school in a couple weeks and have a nice fast DSL connection, I'll be sure to do some listening and get some reviews up. (Dialup is a dog). Anyway, I...

    practicing mixing

hey, do you guys know of anywhere I can get some cubase VST projects just to practice mixing and EQing on? I'd like to start acutally recording with it, but I don't have the money to buy decent converters/I/Os. So for now, I just wanna get used to the controls and do some ear training.

what type of mic is best for piano

buy yourself a nice XY pattern stereo ribbon mic. lol... make sure to mic the bottom of the piano as well as the top. Thats where all the low and mids are produced. If you get a good stereo micing pattern on top, and a mic sensitive to mids/upper lows on the bottom, it will create a nice full...

    Cool Edit or N-Track?

which do you prefer and why? I'm experimenting with both right now.

Is cool edit pro really that cool

if I had a mac I'd totally go with protools over cool edit... The reason St. Anger sounds so crappy is because they recorded the songs live in usually only one or two takes, then just added vocal harmonies and punched in to fix minor problems. It sounds raw because they wanted it to and it has...

    sound card latency

this is gonna take some experimentation

    Question? Ceilings and dry walls..

you don't want any parallel surfaces. Even if your cieling is gently slanted and hard to notice, it will help alot. Standing waves are your enemy. Try not to have any 90 degree corners... low frequencies tend to build up in corners. Again, no paralell walls. If your room is a cube and you can't...

    sound card latency

its a sound blaster live which I hear has problems with latency

    sound card latency

Is there a way that I can have cool edit automatically compensate for my sound card's latency? So far this has been this biggest thing turning me away from computer based recording.

    Survey: Good Recording Engineers

I think to be a good engineer you have to: 1. have a good ear to spot problems that need to be fixed. This includes having enough experience to know what a good recording should sound like, and how to get the sound to that level by knowing your equipment in and out. 2. know how to read people...
