Or is it the summing bus in the program you use better? If you don't use the dithering summing bus in protools, a cubase or nuendo system will sound silky smooth in comparison.

cubase comes with a SMPTE generator that will allow cubase to act as the master when syncing up smpte devices. However, I want to sync cubase up to analog tape, so therefore the tape machine must be the master (because the tape machine itself has no way to read SMPTE). So, can cubase read smpte...

has anyone heard about the quality of the mic pres on the MOTU 896HD interface? are they any good?

Don't connect your guitar to the RCA's.. they're line level. Connect your DI box to the XLR in's with the mic pre... you could try connecting it directly to the XLR and cranking the mic pre, but most likely it will sound like complete ass.

Protools seems to have alot of little clever features that saves alot of time. Its a great piece of software. The user interface is much better than Cubase or Nuendo... but then again, with a steinbeg system your hardware and plugins will still work when you update your software. For the home...
