My band LoPrimo 8 piece Brooklyn outfit @ loprimo.us just cut our first e.p. all live to tape recorded in one evening.. Not out yet, as we are shopping for a record deal as we speak. Love tape and nothing sounds like tape or a computer.

The preamps are nothing to write home about. If you are looking for a character box, bluesy distortion? The akai preamps can deliver these tones on spades. However if youre looking for a clean fat tone, best to look somewhere else mi amigo. IMHO of course. Those akai/Roberts are dirty and noisy...

Analog only. And forget about drum replacement..

You're correct. All but the last two BK albums recorded to tape. Brothers and El Camino are digital Logic, Pro Tools, Sound Toys Decapitator plug in, sonic creations, jeje.

Well see the thing is, both Raphael and the Black Keys do record sometimes to tape.. Raphael Saadig: " The way I see it" and "Stone rolling" BK: "Brothers" and "El Camino" Sound very close to the source to me? Black keys have more of a 70's vibe, MC5 me thinks..

I think Rafael Saadig and the Black keys do a very good Job in the box..

Thank you! Muchas Gracias! Yes I mixed digitally :/ wish I could mix to 1/4 for sure. I can hear the extra layer of delicious analog in your recordings. Right now I am getting to know my 80-8. Hope I can find a great mixing machines in the future, cause it does shows. Long live analog kid!

I think you can get the sound inside the box. At least it works for Rafael Saadig and Tchad Blake (Black Keys), Lo primo etc. I mean Sharon Jones do sound nicer! No question about it. But I am with lonewhitefly, arrangement first than instrument, and last biut not least tape baby. Some People...
