Effect loops on amps- are they wasting money on extra sockets?

using the FX loop is the best way to go imo

    I've got a really stupid idea (4 x 4x12 cabinets, 2 amps!)

hmm. sounds like it is time to start thinking about a console, power amps and some stage speakers other than more guitar cabs. just my thoughts:)

    I've got a really stupid idea (4 x 4x12 cabinets, 2 amps!)

Make that +1000! You will have plenty of stage dynamics at 85 to 90 db. You are defeating the purpose of using sound reinforcement if your stage volume is any louder than that. you will deliver better overall sound to the audience turning down the stage volume and turning up through the mains.

    Bass Amp Idea's

No he has a crew of roadies to do that. Gary has not had to haul his own gear since the early 70's I should know since I was helping to haul it back in the early 80's:cool: I was a roady one season for Rush when they toured with Kansas.

but with 40,000 watts of power amps at his disposal I really don't think he sees the need:D

    Bass Amp Idea's

This bass players are also more likely to go DI opposed to guitards wanting to mic their cab for the same reason. I would much rather have a light ss head with 4 band eq for playing bass and it has to have direct output. another good consideration would be to use a nice preamp like the...

    Micing cabs vs. Amp Simulators

I agree with this 100% I would venture to say doing a double blind test with a Behringer Bass Vamp using one of its Brittish amp and cab sims up against the real thing no one could be able to tell the difference between the modeled track and the track that was micked. but then again like you...

    Custom-print guitar picks?

I didn't know that about the menorah, cool! but then again there are lots of things I don't know about the Holy scriptures however I feel a lot better not knowing and being a doer of what I do know and not just a hearer. I do know the menorah represents the 7 Churches of Asia Minor according to...

    Another OD Thread (Fulltone)

I don't know anyone in their right mind who would spend that much money on a distortion or overdrive pedal but a multi FX processor like a Boss GT10 OTOH is a different story all together.

    Micing cabs vs. Amp Simulators

If I am recording someone else I mic their amp and record their effects but if it is my own stuff I record DI then reamp the DI track this way I can experiment with different amp simulators or whatever suits my fancy for the mood I am in:):rolleyes::cool::D:(

    Need amp tips

that is the whole purpose for using tube amps in the first place, yes you get much better tone when the tubes are fully compressed and the only way to achieve this is to crank the power but by the time you get the best tone out of the amp it is too loud thus using an attenuator allows you to be...

    Need amp tips

actually what an attenuator does is allows you to be able to crank your amp in order to get full tube saturation at a lower volume output, the power attenuator hooks up between the amp and the speakers and disipates the unused portion of power in heat through the unit. the preamp attenuator only...
