I do my composition on another software and the final result is a midi file.
All i do on reason is......
I import my midi file into cubase. Rewire Cubase into reason.
Create bass synth in reason.
Connect bass track with reason's synth.
Connect the rest of the tracks to microsoft midi synth
The...
Alright. I do all my midi work on a seperate canvas, and have all my instruments layered, tempo-d as a whole midi file.
so its drums, bass, guitar, strings etc in one of my standard song.
i import this midi file into cubase, rewire into reason. Create a synth in reason and select finger bass...
Not so sure about cond mics and black metal vocals. If the vocalist is too loud, there might be a problem.
Perhaps a Dynamic is better for growls and screeches.
Alright. I've got my DAW, Sm57, XLR Cable, Firebox, Cubase LE, and Reason 2.5. I've done a few tweaks to my DAW for better perfomance, only not deleting some games and windows messenger.
Been using my mobo soundcard so far. What do i need to do with my new gear?
Also, install firebox first...
So on my DAW i'd do everything on headphones (track + mix), burn onto CD, use the DVD player outside, friend's stereo, father's car to "re-"monitor the mix?
Even if i had monitors, i still have to do this, right?
I'd be getting my Firebox and SM57 soon.
1)Can i use my current PCI FW/USB combo card temporarily? If i experience no problems? I heard combo and Non TI chipsets are bad?
2)Monitoring system. I don't have enough to get a Reference monitor. Will headphones be enough (for a demo). I've seen...
Ok, right now, i've sent it for repair, and its the mainboard's fault.
When i get it back can i just format my 200gig drive to NTFS, and allocation size as default? (some say use the 4000kb+ option, but i'm not sure)
I won't neeed a dedicated libraby as i won't be using Giga or kontakt...
Well, you won't know how this world changes.
For example, 2 hours from now, perhaps the news would report saying some new genius has invented a new kind of audio device with some kind of godly function, and this has required the industry to hire more engineers and producers.
There, you have job...
If you're only recording elec guitars, line6 will be a good choice for ease of use.
But if you're needing mics to mic up the cabs and DI basses, you'd be better off getting a Audio interface.
If you want to record drums, get a firepod. With the 4 Line ins on the firebox (2 pres'd), you'd still need 2 more mic pres, which is a couple of hundreds of dollars.
If you record guitar only, the inspire should be a good way to start.
3 is my max, i'd be doing 90% of my work with only 1 track at a time.
Mics cannot be lined in with 1/4"s right?
The firebox has 2 pres, 1 mic and 1 instrument, or is it both just pres which can input both mics and instruments?
Hows the latency, issues of pops clicks, digital distortion etc...
No worries about the questions man. I got scolded, flamed and mocked at when i posted at some other boards when i was a complete n00b, (you could say publicly)
Well, the soundcard will mostly affect compatibility with the computer, latency, and data transfer issues (if its a soundcard only...
Excellent. The drums, intro toms are great, but the snares could be alittle more real, not complaning here, the track is great.
Love the intro harmonies. The synths are a little too loud, the guitars could be a little louder.
After a month of research, i've settled down for the Presonus Firebox.
I'd be recording Bass DI, Vox, Backup Vox, Acoustic and Electric guitars (mic'd). So i'd be dealing with the mic pres and two front inputs mostly, and won't be really using the line ins behind.
SM57, Studio Projects B1/C1...
I'm also a entry level n00b, and i got a PC recently for DAWs. Personally, i don't really feel comfortable with macs, but its your choice though.
There are pros and cons for macs, eg you can't use EMU, but can use MOTU.
Do a search of the equipment you'll need, then compare it with PC or mac.
