You could try using an EB Tech device :

It will keep it quiet until you can get to the real problem of what ails it. ;)
Good luck!
;)Thanks Danny! I ended up getting it (on sale too) and it looks like a nice unit. Not sure if i want to load the supplied Ableton Live Lite or use existing Sonar.
The effects and amp models are quite good.
My son wants one of these to use the effects for digital recording. I'm not sure if this is a decent unit or not for a 16 year old guitarist?
Does anyone have one and if so, any comments...
It's amazing what you can do with the features like the Elastic Time tempo and time manipulating tool.
Pro Tools 8 introduces Elastic Pitch, which allows you to effortlessly manipulate or correct the pitch of any audio region in real time, right inside the Edit window. ;)
For that kind of dough, you can find a pre-owned Yamaha MO6.
The heart of the MO series is the same massive 175 MB wave ROM and synth engine found in the flagship MOTIF ES.
The 4-oscillator voices feature multi-band filters and snappy envelopes so there's also a complete selection of analog...
Behringer products seem to be hit and miss. I haven't tried or used that specific mic, but have had some good luck with some of their preamps and mixers. A friend had a bad experience with one of their powered mixers though.
So far, I've been able to avoid Vista using XP Pro, but MS is stopping support on XP in 2012 I believe?
Reaper is another good recording one (free to try). ;)
For that price ($100) I'd go with an AT-2020. ;)
For about double (MF price) I'd go for with :
Rode M3 - $199 at Musicians Friend
Rode NT1A - $199 at Musicians Friend
MXL 990 Condenser Microphone with Shockmount $70
MXL MXL 990 USB Powered Condenser Microphone $100

I buy a lot of gear through Streetwater and they send me complimentary copies of Premier Guitar (they have an online version too). I occasionally pick up a copy of Vintage Guitar and I subscibe to TapeOp.
I use a MIM Standard Jazz Bass for recording. It does the job and sounds very much like an MIA Jazz Bass. Of course, I tweak the tracks like crazy before doing the final mix. ;)
Audacity will get you in the ballpark quickly, then you might want to get into something like CuBase, Pro Tools or Cakewalk when you've become a bit more understanding of the features that each offers. Good luck!
I've been using JBLs for 25+ years with no problems.

Mackie is my suggestion for powered mixers.
I tried several small low watt amps before finding a "mint condition" MIA tweed Fender Pro Jr that I like a lot for recording and even small gigs.
