    Does this arrangement work?

I would take out the cello, it's interfering and the fast vibrato doesn't help things. Instead, this song desperately needs something high, add some violin pads two octaves up. Everything it at the same octave, nothing can breathe.

    Okay, my first.

It's a catchy song. It seems over-compressed and too bright. On phones, it's too much, it needs less treble overall. Take the backing strings down a lot, they are interfering. The main thing is the compression/limiting, it's sucking out all the dynamics. Performances are fine, there's a nice...

    Leaving It All Behind

Cool tune. To me, the entire backing seems heavy. The Moondance vibe isn't coming through because it sounds like a heavy rock mix and the dance quality isn't coming through. I think it's actually the rhythm guitar, it needs to be more background and lighter. It's an excellent song, me likey.

    another world

Sounds good. The triplet guitar in the middle is a little weird, it doesn't quite fit at times. I would suggest a little reverb on the shaker to give it some space, it's too up front at the moment. In general, I'd devise a heirarchy of what needs to be prominent and what needs to be...

Heart Shaped Bruise (the other July Thing)

Nice raw sound. Yeah, the vocals need to be a lot louder and more "growling". Drums sound distant on this, it might be a live room but they can come up in the mix, snare sounds a but muffled. It reminds me of the 80s quite a bit, which is always a good thing. :)

    Brand New Emotion

Hi Gerry, nice to hear some new stuff! Sounds great, nice and tight! Backing vocals could be 2db louder. Guitar solos are nice and tasty. Bass sounds good, it might sound better if there was even more walking bass throughout, it adds a lot to the tune when the bass line is moving. Really nice...

    When Does the Sun Rise?

Very nice, very catchy. I would suggest working on the background vocals. They can be louder and a little more thought out. When they are parallel 5ths, it really isn't working. A combination of 3rds, 6ths, etc will probably work better than parallel 5ths. Nice tune.

    Misty

It's very nice, but the levels are very hot and are clipping. Listen to a commercial recording and then this, it's really loud and needn't be. The performances are very nice.

    In the Bleak Midwinter

Thanks for the comments fellas, very helpful. I think one solution might be to back off individual reverbs a bit, and have a master reverb for everything. There are 4 people. I laid down keys and violins, 2 friends laid down additional keys, and the cellist did 2 takes that are mixed at times...

    "Heart & Soul" original song......

Vocals need to be louder, especially when in the lower register. They aren't as bad as you think. You ain't Pavarotti, but burying them only makes the situation worse.:D Guitars sound great, it's a killer tone for this style. I think there are times when you could automate them more- pull down...

    Ellie By Client No7

The music is good, it's played well and lots of good ideas. Yeah, something like that. The good news is that it's easily remedied with minor eq adjustments, especially to the left guitar. It's piercing and the tone isn't working. The mix isn't quite gelling, nor is it that far off. Spend some...

    "Never Gonna Change"

Nice tune, good performances. Yeah, back off on the L2 (Waves I assume), as the mix almost blew my wall down. :) It's real loud. It sounds fine, but it's just a lot louder than it needs to be.

    The Official BOSS BR-800 Thread

A few ideas: 1. Right-click on the file you want to import into Sonar, and check the "properties". It should say 16bit 44.1 .wav If it doesn't, you don't have it converted properly. 2. In Sonar, make sure you have audio tracks and not midi tracks. At top, go to "Insert" and then insert some...

    The Official BOSS BR-800 Thread

One, a stereo track. The left side recorded guitar, the right side recorded silence. It all depends on how your input is set up. Go to menu/input, and your first choice will be "guitar/bass". Look at the second line, it says "mono rec". Move to that line with the arrows, and you will be able...

    Il Dulci Jubilo

Thanks for listen, all. It's 2 real violins, the rest synth. Yes, I did all the synth parts. I have 12 tracks on the album in 12 styles. Errr, at least they are supposed to be.:D

    Don't Worry

I took about 4 years off from recording to concentrate on doing orchestrations for symphonies. I just put up an mp3 on this page.
