Just bought the book Tunesmith: Inside The Art of Songwriting. I love his writing, in fact one of my favorite albums of all time is Watermark by Art Garfunkel....every gorgeous song written by Jimmy Webb. Tunesmith is 432 pages on every facet of what we all do. I can't wait to get into this...

I have written more than one set of lyrics in the stairwells where I work! I whip out the pen & paper and get the idea written down before it's gone. As stated above, the cellphone is my best friend...all the phones made in the last 3-4 years have this function.

Maybe I can paraphrase what Ray said. The title of this thread is exactly: How to write songs, when you have absolutely nothing to write about? This does NOT mean "I have a ton of lyrics but I can't seem to write a melody to complement them". This means "I can't write any lyrics right now"...
