Great tune...when I was in various cover bands, I used to love playing it. -Mike

    Frustrated Songwriters Handbook "Lodge"

I have the book, and I found it "just OK". The ideas for breaking through dry spells are very good. But I found the constant harping on creating lodges, and the sidebars from existing lodges to be tiring. I just want to write songs, not join a club!

    Thoughts about the rain

It reads more like a poem than lyrics. I have a hard time imagining music going with it due to the inconsistent meter. Fabulous imagery, though. Is it yours? -Mike

Writer's Block. How do YOU deal?

Oh I forgot to mention...a rhyming dictionary is absolutely essential. I use RhymeZone.com for mine, because it breaks rhyming words into 1-syllable, 2-syllable, etc groups. Often by just seeing a rhyme, I will get inspiration for the next line or even another verse. -Mike

Writer's Block. How do YOU deal?

Excellent advice. Two songs that I wrote like this are on my Soundclick page, 1. Summer Sun 2. The Blue Horizon They were written so quickly that I was embarrassed to play them for my wife. Summer Sun hit #1 on the Soundclick chart. It was written in the middle of February as I longed for the...

    Oct/Nov Challenge ~ Strat1958's finished (?) product

Thank you to everyone for their feedback, suggestions and comments. I really appreciate the time you took to listen. What I didn't say in the early stages of this process was that the song was autobiographical. My wife and I split up a couple of years ago, and this song describes my thoughts...

    Oct-Nov Challenge ~ Geck's recording effort

As I said earlier, this song is wonderful, and I think it's the best of the bunch in the entries for the Oct/Nov challenge. Great lyrics and melody. Parts of the arrangement remind me of an Alan Parsons Project type of sound. Your harmonies are tasteful and not overpowering, the piano is very...

    Oct-Nov 2009 Challenge - Joseph Spain

Joseph, you have written a great song here. However, I had the exact same concern as Gecko...that one note in the chorus stands out a little too much. At first I thought you'd misfired on the note, but in subsequent choruses it was still there. I thought the verses were sung extremely well...

    October / November Challenge

This song was very pleasing to me. It reminds me of John Lodge's contributions in The Moody Blues. Unlike Geck, I thought the doubled vocal worked in this arrangement. I also liked the synth, it was very 'retro' without sounding cheesy. The song itself is nice to listen to, and follows a...

Am I delusional? - Rock artist needs advice

Regarding the preserves: Once you've had black, you can never go back! Kerrio, I think the song "Six Feet Above Ground" is very good, it sounds like circa 2000 alternative rock. But that lead guitar yapping away through the whole, entire, f***ing song - well, that needs to be cut back by 90%...

Are vocals the most important part of a song?

Joseph, I had to LOL when I read your comment....I know you love Barry Gibb and the Bee Gees as an influence...I remember being on the dance floor in 1978, and for six months, KNOWING that the Bee Gees were singing.... "Bald headed woman.....bald headed woman, do me" When I finally bought...
