What is the best hard drive brand?

I go through about 30 hard drives a year and have for at least the last 5 or so years. I personally prefer the Seagates, but western digital is certainly a close second in my mind. Of all of my drives, I have not lost a more than one or two Seagate or Western Digital drives to things that were...

    How do YOU do it?

Bguzaldo.... First, bussing. What we are talking about here is an audio buss or group. It is basically a submaster in the sense that you can assign 1 or more channels to it and it becomes a master fader for the output of those channels and then from there feeds it to the master left and right...

    Alesis HD24 or Fostex D2424LV?

Both units in their stock format sound just fine. Over the years I have owned both and ended up settling on the Mackie SDR for remote stuff. All three of the units have pretty decent sounding converters. Much better in my opinion then most of your low to mid range soundcards. The Fostex does...

Can someone explain to me how to match amps and loudspeakers?

Keep in mind not to just look at the power of an amp, but the power per channel at the impedence you will be using it at. I see musicians and stuff constantly not paying attention tho this. For example they go into a store and they buy a 1200 watt amp to drive a pair of speakers. What they...

What Are Some Good Cleaners? Lubes?

Look for the CAIG brand stuff. It's what most people seem to be using for consoles, rack gear etc....

    OVERHEAD...but not over priced

I have been very pleased with the Peluso CEMC6 stereo kits. At about $650 for a piar with a case and shockmounts I think they are a real deal. Enough so that I got rid of my AKG 451's and 414's.

    Anyone have a Robbie?

Also, a lot of your currently made chinese tubes are leaving the factory with no markings on them :(

    Anyone have a Robbie?

Actually, equipment can function with the wrong tube in it. Different types may use the same pin-outs yet totally different voltages. Think of an EL34 (6ca7) and a 6L6. Fopr that matter, just a 6L6 compared to a 6L6GC, 6L6a etc.... Putting the wrong tube in can put lots of stress on both the...

    My First Condensers...Your Thoughts?

For under $700 you could also consider a stereo pair of Peluso CEMC6's. In my opinion they sound much better than any of the mics you have listed. Of the ones you do have listed, I actually prefer the Oktava's over the sm81's, and would never even consider buying a pair of AKG C1000's.

    Miking cello

Having owned a pari fo the V67g's, that would definately not be on my list of cello mics. As for riboons, I have used a Royer R121 manjy times an it has worked really well on cello. I would imagine most any ribbon mic by nature will lend itself nicely to cell though :)

Can someone explain to me how to match amps and loudspeakers?

Last night I was compiling a bunch of manuals and spec sheets for a 10 day festival gig I am doing in January. For fun I took a look at the L-Acoustic specs as I was downloading them. On the dV-Dosc specs they list reccomended amplifier power as double the RMS of each driver. I can't think of...

    How do YOU do it?

Beleive it or not, thats not really as much processing as it sounds, nor micing. I do love having the three snare mics. They play nice together and leave many options open during mixdown. The overheads were very prominent in the mix as well and the tom mics were used sparingly, but definately...

Need major help using cubase studio 4

Honestly? The first thing you need to do in my opinion is find someone in your area that can sit down at your computer with you to determine the real issues. There are just too many variables to say for certain what you actually do and don't need to do. I would hate to see you spending money...

Can someone explain to me how to match amps and loudspeakers?

First off, daisy chaining speakers is parallel. As a result, if you plug one 8 ohm monitor into another 8 ohm monitor, you get a 4 ohm load. As for the amp, something sounds screwy there. Any chance you misread it? What you said is the opposite of what i did, but your explanation backs my...

Need major help using cubase studio 4

Well, the power supply COULD be creating problems, but I think you have a combination of things. A weak or poor quality supply can affect everything in your system from CPU to RAM to video to Hard drives. It can make them stop working, be instable, or just basically degrade their performance...

    How do YOU do it?

Well, its late, I am not sleeping for a bit, and I need to get away from these mixes for a bit, so here is the details on a recent session. First we started with drums, bass and a reference uitar as well as a reference vocal. For this specific song, we opted to not use a click track. The...

Need major help using cubase studio 4

There are certainly better processors out there, but I don't think that is your problem. The first thing that worried me was the fact that you have an HP tower which means loads of backround crap running and that windows probably needs a major tune up. Second, you mentioned a 500 gig hard...

Can someone explain to me how to match amps and loudspeakers?

Generally speaking, I would reccomend 2 to 3 times the power in an amp then the speakers program rating. In this case you would be looking at a 1600 to 2400 watt amp. Especailly if you are looking at lower end (i.e. cheaper amps). If you get into a more efficient and/or higher quality amp you...

Questions on how my mic just stopped working...

Without being there to trouble shoot, my gut says that the mic is not whats at fault. Generally speaking if you have a live preamp and phantom power on you will definately hear a pop when pluggin or unpluggiong the mic even if it isn't working.

    Large consoles in big studios

I am not sure how I feel about some of these tests. I understand how and why they are being done, but there is always the one flaw for me. First, how did they do the same exact mix? Did they just stem the pro tools channels individually through the analog desk? Did they stem premixed groups...
