    DR40 vs DP008-ex

Mysterious Unit I picked up a DP-008EX on a one-day sale for $99 a year or two back for fairly similar reasons. I've only used it once or twice since then. The conversion process was a nightmare that took a HUGE amount of time, something like fifteen minutes to convert a three-minute piece...

Rock-Solid MB & RAM Combo for FX-8320-Based Dedicated Reaper Box?

Here in the Studio of Death (where year after year thousands of dollars worth of DAW/recording gear goes to unproductively and mysteriously croak without ever recording a single note) I recently cooked a C: drive on the existing system, prompting me to throw the whole cursed mess out and start...

DP-008 tracks to Reaper on PC

So, it doesn't convert it to .WAV untill it goes into the export-to-USB function and it's still using their screwball format on the unit itself? Seems awfully odd to me. That must be some very magical file format to be worth the extra hassle.

DP-008 tracks to Reaper on PC

Is there some reason why you can't just move the SD Flash card to the computer and blow off the rigmarole with the USB hookup?

GOOD Forum for Digital Pocket Studio Type Gear?

I saw that one right out of the gate, but it's totally dead for what I'm looking for -- no replies since October. :( I don't think there's much to be had, which is kind of surprising to me.

Check out what I did with DP - 008

Yep. Eats AAx4 batteries like a furnace, though (never mind with phantom power on), and incredibly there was no AC adapter included. Had to order a generic off eBay. Nice unit, though. At $450MSRP it ought to be.

Check out what I did with DP - 008

Apparently the DP-008EX is reaching the end of its marketing cycle as well, as I got one a couple of weeks back from Musician's Friend for $99.95 with a TM-78 microphone thrown in. I think it has some practical advantages over the previous model, but haven't messed with it much yet. AFAIK...

DP-008 tracks to Reaper on PC

I recently picked up a DP-008EX and in a discussion with someone with the 008, he complained that while he could do this, the tracks are exported in some Tascam proprietary format, which was a nuisance to convert. I have no idea if this is true. The DP-008EX exports in .WAV format, though...

GOOD Forum for Digital Pocket Studio Type Gear?

I gave it a quick glance, but it looked more for the bigger gear. I'll give it a fishing trip and see what I catch. ;)

whats your favorite bass amp simulator?

I'm all on SVX, but there are some others. I've given up on outboard modeling after having four or five of them reveal unremediated bugs or else unceremoniously croak just sitting there. Even the lowly BDI21 managed to go bad.

    Comments on the TASCAM DP-008EX

I'm not even sure if this is the right forum for this. I bought one a couple of weeks ago from MF with an included TM-78 microphone for $99.95, because I couldn't pass up the price. I have a pretty decent studio, but got this for scratchpadding. I think it will do most of what you...

GOOD Forum for Digital Pocket Studio Type Gear?

While I have a pretty good dedicated studio, I recently took advantage of an incredible SDOTD price on one of [these]: ...to do some scratch recording and preliminary fiddling around when I don't want to fire up the studio. Rather to my surprise, this thing is vastly more sophisticated than...

Lightly aged or brand spankin' new?

That unless someone's giving you the parts, building is a terrifically uneconomic waste of time and money you'll never get back.

    Whats everyone using for amps?

Yeah, a cable into the interface. A3. SVX for bass. Haven't used amps for recording in years. Have lots of nice amps, don't use them much.

    Basic Bass Questions

I have a BDI21, and it does nothing (0) to the signal that can't be done better with a VST on a raw track, except possibly increase input gain from a passive bass, which I've never found to be necessary. Its use is itself destructive if you think about it, as it's irreversibly monkeyed with the...

    Basic Bass Questions

That was my point, though: Not really. They do some minimal 3-band EQ and a little crappy OD, maybe, but they're extremely trivial and crude compared to something like SVX or even some of the freeware bass VSTs on a good dry track. Plus, the latter is infinitely more versatile in the sense of...

    Basic Bass Questions

While we're at it, why do people think you need a DI box for guitar/bass when virtually every recording interface made already has dedicated Hi-Z instrument ins? The BDI21 is OK if you are doing crude recording without treating a raw bass track with various VSTs, but otherwise I...

    Fender Precision Deluxe Bass

After playing and working on Fender basses for over 45 years, I am pretty much in the passive camp. Active Fenders are just wrong, and active basses for recording are not something pro engineers put up with if they don't have to. You can EQ better and cleaner upstream in the studio. Passive...
