Recording in stereo with 2 different microphones

^ this is called the "mid-side" method. SKYFlyer, you can use two different microphones - people do it all the time - but it may not be stereo. Stereophonic has a specific meaning and is achieved by using a pair of matched microphones in one of several configurations. Except for mid-side, as...

What % of main stream Metal/Rock recordings have the bass recorded direct?

Ironically - because I am primarily a bass player and have been doing it for 35 years - I worry less about recording bass than any other instrument. If the bass is FEATURED in a song, or if I'm recording jazz or something where you can actually enjoy the nuanced SOUND of the bass, then I might...

What % of main stream Metal/Rock recordings have the bass recorded direct?

I can't see why this would be true. There are fewer variables with DI than with miking an amp. It's not rocket science.

bass defretting ? for Light (or any other qualified person)

I can see doing this to a "junk" bass, but I would never do it to a perfectly good fretted bass, considering the cost and/or time involved, the potential for mistakes and poor results, and the loss of resale value.

    Sliding all info

You can do as you describe, or you can slide everything first and then record on one or more of your existing tracks, in the "empty space."

Drums Bleeding on IEM through Shure Beta 87A

You didn't say whether there are other mics in the monitor mix. If so, it may be these other mics which are picking up the drums. You will always have *some* bleed. The 87a has a hypercardioid mic. As such, its null points are at approximately 45 degrees either side of straight ahead as you...

    fender amps? bassmans, twins, etc.

Incorrect information about transformers. Any differences in power transformers OR output transformers - which MIGHT have an effect on bottom end - would be due to variations in circuitry and model. Any advantage of the combo amps would be the presence of reverb and/or tremolo. One way to...

vocals are harsh soundin and to much lows

What mic were you using before? You seem to have come into some money to afford a C414 and a 1960! I might suggest that perhaps you're simply hearing your vocal better than you have before, and it sounds ... different. The C414 is a great mic but it doesn't suit everyone.

    Who Destroyed Country?

Garth Brooks, blecch. All hat and no cow. The decline of country and western began with Elvis Presley, but it would have happened without him. It's really a function of the urbanization - and suburbanization - of America. How can you have "country music" when there is no "country" anymore...

    best sax mic

I'll second the MD421 for an all-around good microphone which works well for reeds and brass as well as vocals, percussion, bass, and electric guitars. It's a good investment for any recordist. If you have the luxury of having several mics to choose from, it comes down to matching the timbre...

Joe Meek's recordings (old recordings in general)

The technique is more important than the gear. Are the players playing in the style of the times? Are they using the instruments of the times? Are they playing together rather than overdubbed one by one?

Where to use Shure SM58's in the studio

The SM58 makes a decent talkback mic.

    Electro-Voice 635A

It wouldn't be my first choice for recording or for live. It's a good mic for what it was designed to do - on-the-scene news reporting.

    Cheap Room Mics?

Two is good, but don't put one at each end of the room. As others have suggested, put them together.

    Over clocking and audio processing.

I agree with legionserial. Leave it alone. Stability is the most important factor in a DAW, and if anything malfunctions you're gonna be guessing that the overclocking is responsible, leading you to a version of computer hell. At the least, give it some time in stock configuration. If you're...
