    Anyone try the MXL m3?

The V6 is warmer.....way warmer, but does have a high end spike. It's good if you want a really toobey sounding mic, even though it doesn't have tubes. The M3 is supposedly voiced like a U67....I dunno about that. The M3 does sound a tad Neumann-ish but lacks the depth of a really good mic. As...

I bet I'm the stupidest person on this entire message board.

Really, it didn't take them a month to get around to looking at it, it took a month for them to stop laughing long enough to call you. :p BTW, can I have the old tubes? :D Seriously though, we've all had our moments.........

    Simple test: Condenser vs. Dynamic

I didn't listen, but I will tell you this: The V63M has three layers of mesh in the headbasket. With so many layer, the sound is affected. If he or you are so inclined, with a little patience and a couple of simple tools, such as a very small jewelers flathead screwdriver and needlenose pliers...

    How it's Made - Neumann U87ai

What happened to tuning the capsule? Sheesh, I could make a Neumann capsule. All I need is a Chinese backplate, German mylar, and decaf Colombian coffee.

    Best Condenser Mic $250 Budget

Depends on what you like and what you might be able to find used. I'd say a modded Oktava MK-319, without hesitation, would be my personal favorite and could be around that price or just slightly higher. I also happen to like the MXL M3, which is $249.

    Group Buy Interest?

It's not difficult to find the "base price" on these items, if you are willing to put in just a little of your time. As someone who was seriously close to pulling the trigger on being another company importing/modding/reseliing these items (mics mostly- but I did have discussions about preamps...

Hey you computer dudes....would this be a good DAW PC?

It might be safe to make sure that 550 watt PS is enough if you are going to run a bunch of drives and cards: http://www.antec.outervision.com/ Sounds like you've gotten pretty far already. Generally (but I've never read the manual :eek): Mother board Processor RAM PS DVD/CD whatever else on...

using a sock as a mic cover

You could wrap it in duct tape and apply a thin layer of epoxy. Seriously though, I've used a plastic baggie and also these things for wearing over the hair (originally got it to protect the ribbon of a naked/modded ribbon mic but have also used it on mics with the inner screen removed...

Hey you computer dudes....would this be a good DAW PC?

Personally, I went with two 10,000rpm Velociraptor drives - 150GB for the OS, etc. and 300 GB for "working" storage. I use eSata for external HDs for archiving (7200 rpm, 500 GB). The 10,000 rpm drives are considerably faster than the 7,200, not that 7,200 isn't good enough. Still, to me it is...

    MXL condenser mics?

Micheal, I believe they have a different topology, ie: M3 is Silicon Valve 3000 is not. Also, I believe the M3 has better components and better QC, done here in the USA. The bodies are slightly different too. Not only do they look different, but the MC feels heftier.
