    Big Knob question

Hey Dave, the input jacks as shown in the BK diagrams seem to be remiss of the sleeve connections like as they are shown on the output side jacks. This would suggest the BK is using the ring connection of the input jack as the signal low and 'ground' internal to the BK. Probably done this way to...

    Big Knob question

Mike, at one time I think you may have mentioned JBL LSR series for monitors(?). If you are using these, is the sensitivity switch set to a position (4dBu or -10dBV) that would need more signal coming through the BK from the 8i6 ? The -10bBV setting would need less signal and possibly the 8i6...

Laptop with only one jack/ Windows 10 doesn't sees my microphone

About as cheap as it gets...... Behringer U-Phoria UM2 USB Audio Interface | Sweetwater and a little bit better..... Behringer U-Phoria UMC22 USB Audio Interface | Sweetwater You might get an adapter to work to get audio into the laptop with not great audio quality, but you may also want to...

    Big Knob question

Being a passive device, the BK will likely lose some signal going through it and looking at the block diagram in the manual suggests its inputs are not balanced which may lose another 6 dB or so from the balanced out of the 8i6 even if TRS cables are used. I'm kinda thinking the 8i6 may not have...

Odd Mic Problem by Design - Shame on Audio Technica

I don't remember how half my old mics sound and maybe some may sound better on the newer gear I have, so I've pulling out a few to give a try. Bought this AT MB4000c back in the late 90's as it would run off an AA battery for the old Fostex 4 track cassette deck that had no phantom power...

    Cloudlifter CL-1

Ableton can use the 2i2 ASIO driver and since your levels appear to be better it's likely it's what it's using.

    Cloudlifter CL-1

Another screenshot and an mp3 clip. Tascam interface at full gain. Tascam doesn't not use ASIO drivers. Mic was a dynamic with the same sensitivity as your SM86. No processing on the clip

    Cloudlifter CL-1

Audacity can not use the Focusrite ASIO drivers or any ASIO drivers due to copyright restrictions. I'm not 100% sure the 2i2 drivers are ASIO either or they handle the audio some other way. You might somehow be going through the Windows audio or your motherboard audio which may be have a...

Have Shure upset the White House?

I've read two (possibly three?) mics are used in a parallel feed so if one feed fails the other can transparently maintain the feed.

    Cloudlifter CL-1

From Cloudlifter's site FAQ, so supposedly would/might work, but shouldn't be needed ...... "Can I use a Cloudlifter with powered mics such as condensers? Condenser microphones typically have a higher output and may not require a Cloudlifter, however they can be used if a dedicated external...

    Cloudlifter CL-1

If you mentioned 'don't need to be clipping' in response to my post, I only intended it to show that the mic was able to put out levels that were adequate enough for the 2i2 and that additional gain from a CL was not needed.

    Cloudlifter CL-1

If you can speak/sing into the mic at a close distance without the Cloudlifter and increase the gain on the 2i2 so the red ring around the gain control illuminates (indicates clipping) you likely have adequate signal. I just tried this with a dynamic mic with a similar sensitivity (output level...

Have Shure upset the White House?

Perhaps something to do with Covid and having mics that are further away and less prone to contamination and having be cleaned often? People do tend to touch podium mics also, so putting them out of reach may prevent that(?)

    SM58 replacement ? + mixing desk ?

USB feed is taken off the main stereo bus, so EQ and effects get sent out via USB. Yamaha was nice enough to include a block diagram in their tech specs guide.

    SM58 replacement ? + mixing desk ?

And the differences between an SM58 and SM7b? I have the SM57 and SM7b. To my ears they are pretty close when used in a similar way. Jump to 9:22 for the comparison.

    SM58 replacement ? + mixing desk ?

It's the pink glob of matter between your ears that does the data processing to decide if it sounds good or not :D Now that you have stuff working a bit, try changing the distance between you and the mic. 'Proximity effect' can alter the bass response. Further away less bass, closer for more...

    SM58 replacement ? + mixing desk ?

I would very much suggest you download the manual for the GoXLR and give it a thorough read and decide if it would be 'simpler'. I personally think not, but it's your money. https://mediadl.musictribe.com/media/PLM/data/docs/P0CQK/GO%20XLR_M_EN.pdf Both the Yamaha mixer and/or the 2i2 are about...
