Greetings again my composer friends! Here is one of my more complex pieces that I've written. Undertaking a big orchestral score is quite the challenge, so I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on improving songs like these. Enjoy!
I'm planning to become a video-game/multimedia composer, so constructing these songs in a short period is great practice for when the real job comes my way. I also challenged myself to write in a completely different genre in each song.
Hello all! I recently partook in a composing challenge as stated above. In the limited time-span to create these songs, I'm interested in how fluid my composition skills are compared to when I'm not under pressure. Most of the these songs are short, so please take a listen to all of them if you...
I would advise getting as much feedback as possible. If you are trying something new in recording, get feedback. If you have any questions, ask them. If you completed a song, share it. You only have 1 set of ears, so having multiple people listen is the key to focus on what to learn.
Greetings Phoenix and Zupux! Please feel free to ask any questions, as we are a community of like-minded music-lovers here. I would be interested in hearing your stuff as well!
Nice to hear live drums! Producers these days often don't even use real instruments, and it often times degrades the song. Great lead singles to kick off your album. I'll definitely take a look at your album.
Nice track HeavyMusic! Some of mixing advice I would give would be to reduce the reverb on the drums. The dryness of the guitars and the reverb-ed drums don't mesh well. The drums also need some panning, so not all the parts of the kit are center panned.
I like how you gave room for the bass if...
10 hours is pretty damn good for your second psy track. I've spent up to 30 hours on a song once and I'm also learning how to trim that time down. I definitely check your other songs out, Mike!
Thanks for showing how your song was constructed! You are certainly not alone when you have that many files playing at the same time.
For the song, I delighted in the many variations you played off the one theme alone. The bass might be a bit too present, but that just might be my headphones. I...
As others have said, the low-end doesn't necessarily need to be boosted, just made more warmer. I also feel that the electronic high-hats during the first chorus of the song are too loud and distracting. Otherwise, I can't really pinpoint another fault in the mixing of the song.
If you have a...
I would recommend looking up marketing techniques as well. No one is going to go to your studio if no one knows who you are. Establish a strong social media presence on as many platforms as you can. Sending out flyers is just not going to cut it these days, and many people have little success...
I agree with the others in saying that having both options, a physical CD as well as online streaming, is important to appease both sides of the spectrum. We are no longer in the era where vinyls and CDs were the only way to play your music, so a band today must adapt online if they want to...
Hello Home Recorders. I want to deal with an issue I've been having with mixing and that is bringing the sound of the track up-front (when listening on headphones) and more clarity. In "Miracle" the song that I'll be showing you, I tried to not use as many effects as to muddy the mix, but it...
Hi everyone! "Our Graves" started with a bass/drum pattern that eventually grew into a full song. I really enjoyed making this one and I hope you can enjoy as well.
I'm still in the process of studying mixing, so are there any suggestions you all might have for me? I would appreciate any...
Very nice work. The simplicity of the instruments really opens up room for the vocals. In my opinion, I would alter the drum velocity notes, as it sounds too processed (Like how it suddenly changes hats at 2:16). They also need to be lowered in volume, as CamCoding suggested.
The lyrics are...
Thanks for the resources. I often fall under the trap of hitting up reverb on every instrument. It takes a professional approach to know when to use certain effects or not.
