hey fellas. thanks. here's a quick summery:
I'm not a guitar player. I'm a singer/songwriter/pianist/drummer, I write and record my own music at my home studio (drums as well). all I really need is my co-workers (I'm in corporate entertainment/top 40) to come over and lay guitar tracks for me...
I'm looking at the micro cube as well. I'm a singer/sonwriter/pianist/drummer (not a guitarist) looking to use it for scratch guitar parts first, before any real guitarist returns with his full rig
was thinking of putting a 57 in front of it and running it through my Great River?..you think it...

check this thread, its right on the front page still! it covers your question exstensivly....you might find most preamps to have more headroom than a board (depends as always!)
I'd agree here as well.
for me, I'm a singer, songwriter, pianist, drummer. so I'm not setting up a studio designed to record other folks. the pre's and mics were all purchased for ME! (my voice, my drums, my room, my music, etc)
My best pre is the great river ME 1NV and then the RNP. those get...
dont understand why so much bitching about the 57? they key to a great snare sound is in the room, the snare drum itself, then the overheads, then the room mics, AND THEN the close mic of the snare (which is only intended to get the thwack! the overs and room mics dont get) and not to mention...
why not get this one instead! its less than $200 and actually has some nice features. I'm sure its quite a step above the smaller one.

sorry but that alex was a pile!..we had a few of those for live stuff and were dreadful. Lexicon in name only. I dumped them for 2 Alesis microverbs and was thrilled. (that aint sayin much BTW)
I never used them in the studio as I was afraid to use something that crappy for critical recording...
I use the following for these purposes:
GR ME-1NV- main pre always first choice: for lead vox, bass, mono acc./guit amps, percussion, kick drum
RNP- secoundary pre: stereo accoustics, keyboards, backing vocals, drum overheads
DMP-3- room mic, snare bottom
Rane MS1b- snare top
dbx376- front...
Brad,
I had an art pro mpa that I put the JJ's/Eurotubes in as replacements. I'm not a big fan of the starved plate budget tube stuff, but yes it did make a difference. now maybe the old tubes were just old and any tube would make a difference in sound. however, at the time I had just received...
yes, the stienburg nuendo 8 I/0 is the RME ADI-8 Pro packaged in blue/grey for Nuendo!
when you say hit them pretty hard, are you saying that the inputs of the Nuendo goes into the red at times?
clip ons are famous for making noise when critical recording. they're great live due to lack of floor space for stands, but any vibration is going to be enhanced by using clip on mics when recording.
I likr using the moongel damper pads (sometimes cut in half) just too take the excess ring out...
