    Fall Back

Thanks! The singer is myself, so of course that is nice to hear. The mic on this is an AT 4050, so yes, a mid priced condenser. What are you hearing, exactly? I think I have some high-end hearing loss so I'm curious as to whether the vocals are too bright in the highs or high-mids. I'll...

    Fall Back

I seriously am looking for feedback here. This is the first completed mix I've done since I put together the new home studio, and particularly since I got my reference monitors set up-- I have some others in reference stages right now but they are not ready. I haven't written and recorded...

Starting a home studio... need serious help pleeeaaaaseeee!

The Scarlett has been working well for me. Good choice for the money. I don't have experience with the mic you've chosen so can't comment there.

    Fall Back

Hi all, I hope you don't mind me posting this here, since I'm kind of new to this forum. I need to do a few tweaks to the guitar parts (just flew those in last night) but I'm wondering how you like this mix so far. I am pretty happy with it and it passed the car stereo test this morning...

Vocal mic comparison! VOTE NOW AND DISCUSS

This is a hard question to answer without any context. I've A/B'd lots of mics and used to sell them, and what works for my voice is definitely not the same as what works for others. It's a very individual thing. My "budget" choice is still the AT 4050 but I recognize there are many other...

USB inout device for recording on iMac

I am using a brand new iMac with USB inputs as well. I sent back a PreSonus unit because it was noisy and had lousy latency problems. Currently am using a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and very happy with it. They make similar units with more inputs.

For every song that comes out easy........

I just wrote a blog post about this. Had a song that I was struggling with for weeks and ended up pulling out bits and pieces to create entirely new songs from. Sometimes the songs write themselves… « Laura Bates Sterner Now and then they do come out as though they're writing themselves...

    New Members: Introduce Yourself Here!

Hi everyone! Just wanted to drop in here for a quick intro. I'm not new to music production but have just started working again in my newly rebuilt home studio and wanted to rub elbows with some likeminded people. Hope to learn a lot from others here and perhaps share some things as well.
