It depends what type of sound you want out of your compressor, do you want transparent or colored?
Have you tried your 410's Pre's? Under $200 you probably won't notice a major difference in a Pre in that range and your mixer. Check out the VTB1, DMP3 and MS1b.
Ahhh my first compressor... we live and learn. I found a good use for it though, I run 2 outputs I'm not using from my 1010 into it just to make it light up...lol It tends to impress people who have no idea what's going on in my rack or what a 3630 is.
I second that. Loose the BBE, it's junk.
If you are just looking to spend some money get a RNP and RNC.
Really you should ask yourself what is it that you need? With such a broad question expect to get replies like Travis's.
Mic Pre-->Comp--> EQ-->Interface if you want to track with it.
Or...
Thanks for the responses!
Mshilarious the 3 controls do indeed make it hard to 'figure out', I read one thread that you commented on it being pretty good and that's what made me decide to get it (or put it on my x-mas list should I say). So does the plate voltage in the out position (marked...
I like my VLA on certain vocals, not on all. I've heard that it's pretty good on bass. It has a bit of a slow response even on fast attack. I've even run a mix or 2 through it and got pretty good results.
Thanks, I'll try pulling the tube tonight.
The meters are set at +4, I don't remember if the vtb is selectable I'll have to pull it out of the rack to see. It's not a full 20db difference, more like 10 or so but do I have to press the +20db then back off the input gain. It doesn't sound bad or...
I just recieved a MPA Gold as an early x-mas gift :D But I find the manual a bit confusing. It kind of contradicts itself (that or I'm a complete idiot) here's my questions.
Is there any reason I should have to give the same mics I was using with my VTB1 more gain with the MPA gold to record...
All the artist of the year noms have good music along with others on the board who weren't nominated. KTrakz probably put the most stuff on the board in 06 so yeah P. Rene the work ethic is respectable. Good to see you back on the board too Killah, Usually it's "new joint" (produced by so and...
I remember a while back Chess (I think, sorry if I'm giving credit to the wrong person) did a comparison, I'll have to find that thread but I believe he ran audio (x amount of times) through different converters. Sounds like a good way to really compare the 2.
It's no Great River or John Hardy but I just picked up a MPA Gold today, haven't played with it enough to form an opinion but I'll def. post when I do. From what I read around here is it's not a starved plate tube pre... however I'm kind of suspicious given the price tag.
The surrounding tracks are always there, unless like you said they have access to the session. To sample anything, whether it's a stereo or mono tracks you find a point in the song which is usually a few seconds, EQ anything you may not want heard (for instance if my sample has drums in it I'll...
Nothing to apologize for...lol
Just pointing it out as in "I do the same thing" rather than "Yo I already said that sh*t" ;)
Didn't catch 'combinations' and if anyone did... oh well. Nice info, glad you took the time to type it up.
