    Hip Hop Open Chat Line....

Yeah I go right through Fred. when I drive up, I usually hit home first (DC). I think it's either 270 or 70 that takes me through Fred. You know any good open mic spots there? I think we're gonna look in Haggerstown also.

    Hip Hop Open Chat Line....

I'll be in Chambersburg visiting family in the area (Greencastle, Shippensburg). How far is that from you? And Peritus... In reason If I do use the ReDrums sequencer. 5 and 13 are ideal and a light velocity snare with flam all the way up on 16. That's on a 32 step beat. And I just find places...

    Hip Hop Open Chat Line....

Good Job Billybo!! BillyBo what part of PA you in? I'm gonna be up that way in March/April for a couple weeks just south of Harrisburg. Might be looking to do some shows if they have any good open mic spots in the area. What's good with everyone else today? I'm getting my tired ass ready to...

How do I get where I want to go?

I agree with most of what's been said. School is a good outlet to find other people to hook up with that have the same interest and goals, but on the other hand so is the internet...lol Just network any way you can, that's the best advice. You can also meet the 'wrong' people also, who have...

    Old School Panning

I don't think they're any better or worse, just the recording process is different. I remember when I got my first CD burner in like 98 it had 2 decks and a mic jack, I would put my beats on one CD and record onto a blank CD... There was no punching in and if I messed up a verse I had to start...

    Quality check....

There's no correct way just whatever sounds good, and I love the KSM27 it's my "go to" mic out of all my mics and it's defintely on the flat side (not harsh). To make things sound wider you can do that by panning, if you dont have the tracks for the beats try a stereo imager on the beat itself...

    Quality check....

You can try to retrack if it's an important song and play with positioning that may help some, but some mics are just harsh in general. If you wanna quick fix the EQ is there to use. That's just my opinion listening on PC speakers, I'm not at my workstation now so I can't check it on the...

    Old School Panning

Thanks for the info BK, I found something out that I always wondered... When would I listen to some oldies (mostly 60's), I'd hear the beat (instruments) panned hard left and vocals panned hard right, or vice versa. I always wondered "WHY THE HELL WOULD SOMEONE DO THAT!?!?" Come to find out...

    Quality check....

Sounds OK unless u want us to get real critical. But it's acceptable, vocals sound a little harsh though and the beat is too low and not bangin' enough. If you just got the equip recently, sometimes it takes a little while to master it especially if you've been used to something else for so long.

    Vocal Tips

Lead Hip-Hop Vocals: Compress going in 2:1 - 3:1...-10 thres Auto Attack and Release. Hpf 100-120hz depending. Compress a little more and eq if necessary. Slight reverb That's about it. Dubs about the same. Sometimes I do another take of the lead vox and pitch shift it down a semi tone or...

Ok, 3630, the best comp ever made......

The $100 price tag suckered me in when I first set out to get outboard gear. I used it for a week maybe then took the 100 dollar loss and upgraded. It does exactly what it's advertised to do... it compresses, but at a cost.

    Producer's Interview

Never saw this one BK..... 1st ? how did you get started making beats One of my boys bought a Yamaha DJX back in 98 and showed me how to sample, from there I was so excited that I went out and bought a few sub $200 keyboards that had sequencers. Then in 99 I copped the Yamaha DJX and I...

    Effects Processor Under $500

There's a few differences between hardware and plugins, the main being the obvious. I think right now you can get more for your money with plugins though and you can always 'undo' if you go too far rather than trying to retrack that perfect take.

    Effects Processor Under $500

With $500 I'd go the plugin route.
