    Beta 57

I've got one. It sounds pretty good on a guitar cab. I've used it for vocals a couple of times. It would be ok for a gritty rock vocal. I've also used it to record a snare drum with ok results.

i need a drum machine that can remember whole songs.

I've got a Zoom MRT-3 that I've had for about 3 or 4 years. The sounds are pretty good, but I'm beginning to have some problems with the touch pads. Also, the stereo output is shorted. I don't know if this is a common problem with other users. You can slave it to a recorder with midi and it will...

How many/much guitar effects do you use on a regular basis??

I've got too many! More than I could ever use. I've just collected stuff over the years. Sometimes I use several at once, sometimes none. It depends on the sound I am going for on a particular song.

    Worst Singer EVER

Tim McGraw is pretty bad, kind of like the sound of someone strangling a chicken. I saw Ozzy live years ago and he was bad, but he didn't sound all the great in the studio anyway. Stevie Nicks is another. Kind of sounds like a goat.

    Pedals

I have always thought that individual effects sound better than multi effects units. Plus, you don't have to fool with the endless menu programing.

    guitar center.....finally

We just got a Guitar Center here in Birmingham a few months ago. Right now it's pretty cool. I'm just afraid it will end up like Mars Music did. You know, all their employees thought they were rock stars and gave you attitude from the moment you walked into the door.

Just curious as to why still analog??

I've noticed this also. The CD's released before their digitally remastered version sounded better. More dynamics, not just one volume level(MAX)throughout the CD. The newer stuff does sound harsher.

    Tremolo Box, recommend me one!

The Line6 MM4 has a model of the Fender and Vox tremolos. It's not cheap but it has models of just about every modulation effect you can imagine. Sounds pretty good.

Need help deciding which head to buy...

Half stacks are cool but you can get better sounds with the 2 amp setup. You can also do more with your effects, if you use any. Plus, if your having amp trouble at a gig you've always got another to fall back on. I've used both setups but I prefer the 2 amps. The half stack can be a pain to lug...

Is it wrong to like The Edge?

The great thing about Edge is that his use of effects enhance the songs he uses them on. They sound musical and not gimmicky. He is an awesome songwriter/arranger. He's also a very good singer. I liked his playing back in the 80's but I also was a big fan of shredding back then. Twenty years...

    Tascam 488?

The manual came with it. My work schedule this week has prevented me from experimenting with it as much as I would have liked. But I'm really excited about it.

I just got a 488MKII off ebay. It is in great condition and so far everything seems to be working ok. Thanks to everyone for responding to my questions.

    Tascam 488?

S.O.R.-I checked out your tune. Nice tone on the lead guitar. I think I will try to score a 488MKII off ebay. Thanks for the reference.

    Tascam 488?

Sounds good. Did you have to do a lot of track bouncing?

    Tascam 488?

Can anyone give some feedback on the Tascam 488? I've seen quite a few on ebay. I've been recording on a Roland VS880EX for the last couple of years and I'm ready to give up on digital. I've got an old 424 Portastudio that I like the sound of and I was wondering how the 488 compares.

Technological advancement vs Vintage, and why

I do think vintage sounds better. But if you are after a classic rock sound, you have to consider that the music was not only performed using vintage gear, it was also recorded using vintage gear. I'm talking about analog recording. Digital just doesn't have the same sound to my ears.

    YOUR best guitar?

1978 Les Paul Custom, black with gold hardware, 3 pickups. The finish is worn off the back of the neck from years of playing. It has survived a car wreck and 2 ex-wives!
