Help in getting this certain drum sound: (link)

Well it's not "old rock" but IMO that track would sound far better with brighter hats, a nice dry piccolo crack, and a kick with more thump and less compressed click. Cool beat BTW.

    All this "acoustics" nonsense...

I think I can offer some insight here, since I work in nonlinear focused ultrasound. When the presenter mentions sound being produced right at your ear, he means that different frequencies are being produced. Actually frequency generation occurs at each point in the sound beam radiating from...

    Drum Silencer?

I read this things cut "80%" of the sound. That's a whopping 10 dB.

Pics of practice space acoustical/aesthetic treatment

    I used a case of 2" 703 equivalent (Knauf). My training's in applied math--wave propagation, specifically. ;)

Pics of practice space acoustical/aesthetic treatment

Here's a little before and after clip if anyones interested in the effects of this treatment. Unprocessed mono overhead LDC and sloppy playing.

Thanks! I had my wife choose the colors. That way I encounter less resistance to spend money on this stuff, and it ends up looking better than if I had chosen the colors myself. =P

Pics of practice space acoustical/aesthetic treatment

I posted this last night but this morning the thread was gone. So let's try it again... Here's what I did: -built 15 skinny broadband absorber panels and 4 2'x2' cloud panels -replaced fluorescent tube lights with recessed halogen units -relocated HVAC vent -stuffed area between drop ceiling...

What to do with a bag of R13?

Purely with drums. =) Thanks for the replies.

What to do with a bag of R13?

I'm not going to bother stripping the batts. Just wanna know if it's worth it to throw the shit up there. I read somewhere for bass trapping it's good to leave the foil on the front, but with the ceiling tiles between the source and absorption I dunno... There's no trapping in the bays now.

What to do with a bag of R13?

I've got a drop ceiling in my practice space. It hides 14" joists and hangs about 6" below them. I just replaced four 2'x2' ceiling tiles with DIY 1" thick 703 absorption panels for use as a cloud, and was planning on backing it up with some extra R13 (faced) I found in my basement. Turns out...

    soundproofing question

Oh, sorry. I should have responded to questions you didn't ask, rather than the ones you did:

    soundproofing question

The best advice I can give you is to read this book. Actually, read it twice before you even think about starting this project. It has pretty much everything you need to know and is presented in a very organized and readable way.

    Audix F14 and F15

The f14 is the kick mic. One was used to record this. It was mounted inside an 18" kick with an unported reso.

    I'm building some panels

Thanks, guys. The floor is Pergo, it was installed by the previous owners but I don't think they did anything special to make it shiny. I try to keep it clean, though :) Did some work on the cloud panels: Front: Back. 703 drops in: Test fit: Like a glove! :D

    I'm building some panels

These are for the walls. The room has a dropped ceiling so I'm building 4 framed 2'x2' panels to replace the "acoustic" ceiling tiles above the kit. Pics forthcoming...

    I'm building some panels

Sure, I'll take some more pics when I finish up the batch this afternoon. The fabric is a poly/cotton blend, kinda like cheap bedsheets. $2/yard at Jo-Ann fabric. Passed the breath test, though. =)

    I'm building some panels

I cut the 703 into thirds: backed with 1x2 framing: and have 11 of 15 completed: I'll build a cloud and post more pics when everything's installed. Enjoy! Josh
