If you already have a mixer and want more than 4 tracks, staying in the cassette format, the 238 is an economical way to go and still get wonderful results. It has rca inputs and out puts so it's real easy to hook up to any mixer. I only use mine for when I bring it out to record certain...

    nt3 or nt1? please heeeelp!!!

I want an NT3 as soon as I can afford one for my live gigs. I love my NT1. I just read a review in an Electronic Musician fron 97 or 98 when they came out,499.00 retail then. They said it stacked up to mics they used costing 2 to 3 times the price. What a great mic for the home recordist.

    Advice on mic pre's/boards?

I have a Peavey Unity 300 Reference Quality 12 channel mixer. I'm satisfied with it. It is a nice little mixer with phantom power for my NT1. I think it was 200.00 new,on sale a few years back. I'm sure it's no Mackie but I like it.

I bought a 234 on ebay,The best audio quality in a cassette 4 track deck.It is so overlooked by cassette based home recordists. I have even seen new leftover models sell for 200.00. When you consider it sold for 1600.00 not that many years ago it is well worth checking out

anybody ever heard of a porta 07?

Sounds to me that this is a case of how do we sell a great 4 track at a lower price level to more people. The fact that yours Doc is quieter than your 424 tells me outside of a few options,3 speed being one,That this is a quality porta and a much overlooked umit that is currently selling less...
