    Got some Headphones from Harvey.....

Ordered on my last post, got them today. Great headphones, delivered as close to instantly as you can get. Can you imagine how great it would be if Harvey sold tape?

    Geometry

Excellent! Reminds me of Henry Kaiser...the woodyness is very apparent on my monitors, and charming. Shifting of time sig is very unique and the intervals are well chosen. I'd like to hear this with the low end filled in, perhaps a bowed bass or organ pedals, but it stands alone very...

Would mix/mastering engineers do it differently if...

One thing to keep in mind is that every album is different as well. Metallica will be mastered in such a way as to clarify a punchy rhythym guitar, and the bass player has little to do with their sound, as can be deduced from their interchangability in the last few years. A wide variety of music...

Best sounding album you have ever heard?

I've always thought that the interplay between backups, male and female voices and instruments was great on the "Red Octopus" album by Jefferson Starship. Also, "Overnite Sensation" and "Apostrophe" by FZ are hard to beat for sheer analog precision.

intonation on a les paul goddess

That WAS interesting, Muttley, although that's the ugliest fretboard I've ever seen in my life. Do you remember Micro-fret? A nut designed by Rube Goldberg...

    The Guitar Pedal Archive

Likely to get laughed at, but my Quadrafuzz does pretty well when a little grunch is necessary. VERY adjustable, just a trifle over the top unless you have a delicate touch. Mostly, though, a small amp dimed out will suffice for anything short of metal.

Staying under $200: Multi-effects choices (pretty much two?)

Back when digitech was called DOD, we used to say it stood for "Dead on Delivery." Look on ebay and see what the resale is for these units, you may well find good information that way.

    Cold/Heat/Humidity effect on guitar?

If it's uncomfortable for you, it's uncomfortable for your guitar. High humidity is a killer, and too dry can be too, wood is hygroscopic, that is, it absorbs moisture. When this happens, the wood swells and crushes cell walls, then cracks when it dries. If your instruments are cased with a good...

    Electric Guitar Dilemma

While you've got the thing desoldered, you may well consider getting a new switch and pots. The chinese make a pretty decent body and neck, but their electronics are bargain basement. I personally like the pickups that come stock in the affinity Tele, but your mileage may vary, they are somewhat...

    Got some Headphones from Harvey.....

I've been needing some indestructible headphones for a while now...thanks for listing where to get them. Just bought a pair, and btw, thanks much for the microphone thread, it's as good as it gets.

What kind of tape are you using? Is it 1.5 mil? Look at your heads with a jewelers' loupe and see if they are coated with oxide gunk, that may be a problem too.

    Would this be enough volume?

Well, I don't want to wake up the rude guy, but I have always found point-to-point easier to work on, and simplicity is good in my book. It seems to travel better, too, and it ages pretty well. I think the preponderance of PCBs is directly related to ease of manufacture, and thus cost...

Just picked up my first analog deck

Supercool! Thanks for the neatest bit of info I've come across all day...I'm going to try it, and if no-one hears from me for six years, you'll know what happened. My family already thinks that I am touched, watching me thumb the flanges and muttering about balance with headphones on should...

Just picked up my first analog deck

Agreed. I have an arcane method that involves click tracks and an oscilliscope, along with prayers to the dark lord of oxide, but I'd recommend it to no-one.

Just picked up my first analog deck

It's likely to always be a problem when you record on a tape machine and a DAW at the same time and want them to line up exactly. No matter how well your tape transport works, there will be a certain amount of slippage that will ultimately result in exactly the kind of results you are...

Just picked up my first analog deck

Unless you calibrate your deck very well, dbx will exaggerate all of it's bad qualities, kind of like me and alcohol. Speaking of which, don't use rubbing alcohol on your deck, it's got a goodly amount of water in it. I use 91% from the drugstore on mine, and haven't had problems yet. My method...

Happy to be of service. If you want to get a soldering iron hot, I can direct you to a few sites that have amp kits that will save you a bundle, let me know...

    Would this be enough volume?

Well, you obviously don't really care about the info, you're just spoiling for a fight. Not going to get it here. You are right, have fun being so. Now run off and find someone else who hasn't gotten laid in the past year and play nice with them.

    Would this be enough volume?

Sorry right back atcha. Yes, I can remove and replace components on a circuit board, but it ain't no fun under stage lights. I can, however, fix point-to-point in low light, in seconds, when one wire has come loose and is right next to it's connect point. Have you ever had a circuit board...
