    FX effects on mixing vocals

    here's my usual chain (varies of course) 1. Waves Desser 2. Blockfish or Waves Rencomp 3. Waves Ren EQ 4. Volume/pan 5. Reverb Send (love the Kajerhus classic) I'll let in around 20% sometimes Ill add in Magneto to warm up a vocal..this would go after the EQ.

    i wouldnt worry about mixing them in mono..thats just a way to listen for phase cancelling..do that to check your mix, but don't go overboard...but yeah, all those things i put in the center.

    i never said to use a lot of EQ and polish a turd. I'm just saying that there is never a record made that is mass distributed w/out EQ on it. Just notching vocals, or kicks or bass is EQing.     "If you tracked it right, you shouldn't need any eq!" damn..well that pretty much means the engineers on just about every album released don't know what they are doing. How do you get a great mix w/out EQIng? I think Eq is a very important part to a mix. Not overdone, but even just a few cuts...

    if you use a firewire interface get a gigabyte mobo and save yourself a lot of pain...the built in firewire is great. i have: athlon 939 3500 2 gigs of dual channel RAM gigabyte k8ns ultra 3 HDs all 7200. win XP

    i have the firebox..great choice..the Pres are excellent for the price. make sure your computer is prepared though, until i get a dedicated DAW set up, there were plenty of dropouts...I'd reccoemnd getting a texas instruments firewire card for 20 bucks..or if you have a gigabyte motherboard...
