I would be horoned to mix a song 4 any1 here on the forums

a lot of hip hop has hooks, harmonies, progressions..some does, some doesn't..that's what makes it so mallable for producers to be creative. to say it isn't music is just not accepting change. radio stations play a lot of hip hop. they claim to be music stations. last time i checked billboard...

I would be horoned to mix a song 4 any1 here on the forums

of course hip hop is music....the quote that says it isn't sounds like something an old person in the 50s would have said about rock n roll. "In MY day, people didn't yell and writhe around so much! It wasn't so LOUD. The kids dance like they're FORNICATING....." and so on.

I would be horoned to mix a song 4 any1 here on the forums

i think hip hop production is quite exciting these days..it is a genre where there really aren't any rules at all right now...there is so much that is being done that i think it is keeping at a top seller. producing hip hop at a high level is not an easy thing..i am not talking about the local...

Rock- Vocal Effects Chain? Correct Use of Effects?

A lot of times I use quick delays in place of reverbs...a la johnlennon's old vocals. Then to get it right, I will compress it. If you process vocals right, it should still sound natural.

    who smokes *stuff* while mixing?

I can't mix worth a damn when i smoke out. I will smoke out only if i am just fucking around and have writers block..but I have really cut back on the weed, and it seems to have helped my overall drive.

    Vocals to dynamic? Compressing 30dbs...

first off, it's not just "a couple" of people. Do you even know who Dave Pensado is? Do you know how many mixes that guy has on the air right now? I am not going to run around and say what I have or haven't done, but I know and have worked with a good amount of producers who do albums that have...

    Vocals to dynamic? Compressing 30dbs...

Well, I have been to plenty of studios where using the L1 on vocals is quite common. Especially in the world of pop. Read some interviews with Dave Pensado and see if he uses it or not. The guy has mixed tons of current hits. So I would say it is a common thing, but ONLY if you really know how...

you absolutely MUST read this article...

once he started getting into the "hit kickdrum" he lost me. that whole formulaic way of thinking is void of creativity. He says stuff like, "the vocal should be dominant w/ the snare, and the bass and kick should drive the song..the cymbals should be more in the back.." no shit. I mean that's...

Guitar recording > EQ in Winamp

i actually did some shows with those guys. I know their tech is a big fan of the PRS and loves to use aural exciters. they also use the mesa dual rec. trying to get your mixes to sound like theirs will be very hard because they mix on an ssl and have all kinds of sick gear.

    Compression: why fixed threshold settings?

once you get good at compression (and man it takes years), throw it all out the window, because you will hear how much of a difference any little tweak can make. Anybody who says to start at a certain threshold..well Idon't know if I'd read past that beause threshold is different each time. I...

    Vocals to dynamic? Compressing 30dbs...

best way to go is chains of light compressing..DeEss, compress around 2:1, EQ, then Compress w/ a different comp at 2:1. That can work real nice..or fail miserably.then you can put on the Limiter to get the vox to punch through if you need it...it's really dependant on how well you know your...

    Vocals to dynamic? Compressing 30dbs...

ok..well first off..D Ess your vocals. Second, limiters are used commonly in the vocal chain on commercial releases. The L1 is the most popular and has been used extensively. So I would use that, but only if you know how to do it, or it will sound like a mess. After you Dess, you should only need...

Just got my mixer, very dissapointed.

oh dude, you are set then with that gigabyte mobo...It's not too expensive. the asus is what is causing you issues. It has a bad PCI interface for firewire. For me, it was between the MSI, and the gigabyte. but after consulting a DAW builder I went with the giga. Asus mobos are great, but more...

Final mix down on 2 tracks or ....

I see what you are saying, but that seems like a ton of work to get levels right. The less processing of the overall mix the better, and for me, just using a volume submix achieves the same results. I also think normalizing is an easy way to fix a problem that began earlier in tracking. if you...

Final mix down on 2 tracks or ....

and also, I'd reccomend using subgroups to get everything somewhat aligned. Normalzing is ok, but it's permament. Changing audio permantly is something I do at last resort. It's a lot easier to just make a volume submix that all your tracks feed into, and boost that up into the master. oh yeah...

Final mix down on 2 tracks or ....

i dont think I even know what you just said. But from what i could decipher...I'd rewire Reaon into Cubase and mix in there, and then render the track down.

Just got my mixer, very dissapointed.

from what I have read Asus is bad for firewire interfaces...do a LOT of research on this before you buy. my setup so you know, Athlon 939 3500 w/ 2 gigs of dual channel RAM 3 7200 speed HDs, sample drive is SATA gigabyte mobo. I love this thing..ultra quiet and it is very fast...I researched...

Just got my mixer, very dissapointed.

i strongly reccomend the gigabyte k8ns ultra if it fits your setup..a DAW builder reccomended it to me, and it is perfect....there is a guy on the cakewalk.hardware forum who knows a lot about what mobos to avoid..do a search on there too.
