To those who have upgraded their logic software

Not sure about other levels, but with Platinum, you have to send in your old dongle, and when you get the new, it doesn't allow you to use 4.x. Any particular reason you want to still use 4.x? I haven't had any problem working with my old songs in the new 5.0.

    Logic problem

No problem Yo dude, they're just muted. This happens automatically during cycle-record if it's set in your recording preferences, which can be accessed via click-holding the metronome button on the transport, among other ways. To unmute them, click on the mute tool in your toolbox and then...

How do crappy sounding toms sound so cool?

I really don't know much about drums. I am looking for my first kit and it will probably never be played live. It will probably never be seriously played by me. I want a kit in my studio so my drummer friends(who know little about recording) can add parts to my songs which work but sound a...

How do crappy sounding toms sound so cool?

dr. colossus, I've heard that a good live kit is not necessarily a good recording kit. Could you, or anyone else, elaborate a bit? WHat to look for in a recording kit, some good models, etc.?

Why do some CD-R's not work in some players

So it has something to do with quality of the CDR? Makes sense. Thank you, Doctor.

"Data DR" scratch repair device works!!

I thought it was a gimmick but for $30 I figured it was worth a shot considering all the old ruined cd's I have. So far I've repaired about 7 cd's, 2 of which wouldn't even start at all, and a few had some songs that wouldn't start. Now they all play pretty well. These things were so bad you...

Why do some CD-R's not work in some players

I've never burned a coaster. I use adaptec easy cd creator and have never had a problem playing them in any player. Today I burned some from a different manufacturer- at least I think it's different, more on that in a minute- and it played fine in my computer, my new DVD/CD/CD-R/CD-RW player...

Which Multitrack Software Is The Best

With Logic you can configure your windows any way you want, save them, and bring them up by hitting a number on the numeric keypad. Don't know if this unique. Logic is all I've ever used.

Which Multitrack Software Is The Best

Is the search function working yet? There's a thread titled something like "What software are you using" that goes on for 3 or 4 pages.

IEEE 1394 Firewire, USB, PCI, and the future of PC/Mac Recording

brzilion, could you elaborate one point a bit: do you mean each device in a PCI slot has it's own 133mb/s to use? How do IRQ's figure in all this?

    Allen & Heath / Mackie / Spirit M

Whoa, a helpful, meaningful post. Thanks Chuck. In all the posts I've seen regarding this topic, that's the first time I've seen that problem mentioned. It may be the first really concrete statement as opposed to "x is warmer etc." I think Sjoko or someone may have alluded to it. Kinda reminds...

    acoustic "kits"

One thing about that book: it has alot of useful, authoritative info but neither the chapters nor text is very well organized. The first half is devoted to specific cases, and the last is theory. If you're just quick scanning at the bookstore, it would be easy to look at one chapter and think...

    Control Room Window

The most important issues for construction are: airtight, multi-paned w/ as large spacing between panes as possible, and thick panes of dissimilar thickness, an absorbent(fiberglass) lining the space. Some people think it's important to angle the panes relative to each other but, despite...

    acoustic "kits"

I recently bought Sound Studio Construction on a Budget by F. Alton Everest. One very interesting point: rigid fiberglass insulation is every bit as good an absorber as that expensive foam. It's actually better since a given piece of rigid fiberglass is comparable to studio foam twice as thick...

    What is THE reverb plug-in?

Don't know if you'd count this as software, BUT, TC Powercore's or UAD-1's reverb will most definitely(in most situations) sound better than anything that uses native processing. Only a couple hundred more than a Wave gold bundle PLUS you really don't have to worry about CPU load.

    Drum Grooves

This may help a little: https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?postid=364398#post364398 Do a search on fruity loops. It's been discussed several times. Not much on vs. Acid specifically, but you can infer some things.

    Drum programming software

Trying to get a handle on all this: So with fruityloops you can make up a loop, but you have to find the samples somewhere? ...I know it comes with *some* samples. With full blown multitracker audio/midi sequencer(Cakewalk, Logic etc) you could do the same thing but I guess you'd have to do...
