After listening to some of these entries, I'm wondering how many people actually read the instructions. I wonder how the talent would feel if they were sitting in on these sessions? I could hear Liza in my head saying "hey what the heck you doin'? That's not what we played. We're a rock and roll...
Nice job. One of the saner mixes I've heard so far. (I'm not pointing any fingers!).
I really hope they take those Puremix subscriptions and give them to people who could really use them. Likewise with the gear. I'd really hate to see those Focals go to some dude sitting behind a $300,000.00...
Every time I try to adjust my mix I go back and listen to my first mix and proceed to trash the "fixed" mix. There's that feed back early in the song after the first chorus. Irritating but what can you do?
Personally, I felt that the bleed made the drum sound. In fact, I don't think you could get the full feel of the song without the bleed. Work with it instead of against it IMHO.
Well, I totally agree with this. If you've read the instructions they clearly want it to be about the mix and not to push too far into production. There are some pretty wild mixes out there. Still, I think there is a lot of room for variance. Even among the "same" mixes, there are subtle...
Yeah. That's pretty well the consensus from most people who have listened to my mix. That being said, it the way I generally mix vox. I like the vox to be in the mix rather than on top of it. I know it's a compromise. I do like a lot of bass. Bass guitar. Bass drum. It doesn't sound so bad in my...
I have to say, I thought the drums sounded great! I had no issues with them whatsoever. One of the easiest mixes to get a good start on I've ever tried. It really impressed.....reminded me how important it is to get a good recording and a good performance right off the bat. I don't think it...
Can we post here? Is this spamming? Not sure. Here's mine: https://soundcloud.com/hue-nery/hue-nery-gearfest-puremix
I stopped after my second go through. It's not perfect but I know I could just as easily mess it up as make it better.
You are totally missing the point. They have had inserts on console's for a long time too. It's about control and effect. But I suppose, it's one more trick up my sleeve.
Sure it is but then you have to control the amount of wet/dry from the effect. Using a send allows you to control the amount of signal the 100% wet effect gets from the fader or from the send.
Well, there's more to it than that. By using sends you can have the effect set at 100% wet, this allows you to have full control over the wet/dry ratio that you wouldn't otherwise have by just using an insert.
For example, by setting the effects send to pre fader, you can send signal to the...
You can't use omnis in XY. Well you can but it's purposeless. Since omnidirectional microphones are non directional, the whole point of coincident pair is subverted. You can't get a stereo image if you use omnidirectional microphones as a coincident pair. The most useful way to use omnis is on a...
Remember that if you get a two I/O interface, you will basically be stuck with recording the stereo out of your Mixer. If that's your intent, then you're fine. If however you want to record more than the stereo out, say you want to record 8 tracks at a time, you will need an interface with an...
