Opinions for a pro or prosumer soundcard

I don't want to get too technical here but if you put a $1000 sound card with a celeron it's gonna suck real bad. I have an audiophile 24/96 w/celeron and it works great- (the sound card). I myself am upgrading to an Athlon xp. You should be able to upgrade your system and get an excellent sound...

Best thing I've done for my DAW in months!

Yes- Buy a new one. They are reasonably priced and easy to install. Otherwise you could buy a Silent Drive internal hard drive enclosure for about $35 plus shipping plus waiting plus hassle only to find out it does'nt fix it. Z Dog

    fan replacement

A1A2, Directron.com/silence has a very good explanation of how to decide if you have a slot 1, socket 7, or socket 370. I would start with your case fan and work up to the cpu cooler. Z Dog

    Motherboard recommendations

Strmkr Take a look at Asus A7M266, and the SOYO Dragon Plus KT266A. I'm having to make the same decision and from my research to date the SOYO is the Hot Rod. PCNut uses them in their NutCruncherPro. Z Dog

    fan replacement

This issue is close to my heart so I will give you what I know. You should deffinately find out which MB you have. A good fan and HSink can be expensive. The power supply probably has a fan, the cpu has one, some of the new video cards have them, and the case has one or two. Holy Shit! The P111...

    ok AMD Athlon, now what?

Thanks Webstop for the recommendation. The heatsink and fan are easy to find but unfortunately look difficult to install. Do you have to take the motherboard off in order to get the HSink on? I will be using either the asus a7v266 or more likely the Soyo Dragon Plus. Thanks Again, Z Dog

    ok AMD Athlon, now what?

I am upgrading my computer system and would like to take the leep of faith to AMD. I need some info on motherboards, cpu's, and cooling fans. I like the athlon xp 1800. What is a good MB to go with it. Also, I understand they run hot and I hate loud fans. Does anyone know of a good "quiet fan"...

    Fender amp hum

I have a fender tube blues deville 4x12 that hums as well, but I'll be damned if I can hear it while I'm shredding. I agree with slack I love that hum. When I record with it I'll put it in another room and play around with two mics one at the amp and a condencer for ambient sounds. Z Dog

What is the best hard drive configuration for recording?

I am now fine tuning my computer specifications before I order it. I am new to the sport and would like some feedback on what is a good hard drive for recording. I hear that it is useful to have two. I will start with one and would like to know what size to get now with the option to add another...
