what does a hip hop artist need around him/her?

I know what you're saying, but all that is on MTV is shit. For one thing, they play videos about 10% of the day. Music TV should not be for "My super sweet 16" and "The Real World" that has NOTHING to do with music. That's a different topic though. You aren't going to make your living...

what does a hip hop artist need around him/her?

Ashlee Simpson is really no different than someone like Ja Rule, they're both fake as shit, corporate pawns. Although Ashlee doesn't pretend to be anything but a corporate pawn pop singer. Ja Rule thinks he's a thug, and an actor, and he's just a little midget with no acting talent AT ALL, and...

what does a hip hop artist need around him/her?

Hmmmm.....I'm gonna say that your figures are wrong. I'm gonna say 1 1/2 is rock, 1 is country, 4 is pop/"R&B", and 3 1/2 is rap. So it's all over the damn place. What's the point? The majority of cd's sold today are hip hop/"R&B". What's the point? In 20 years who's gonna remember T.I...

what does a hip hop artist need around him/her?

Yeah, and maybe it shouldn't be. I just read this little rant about hip hop. I like rap, and hip hop....well, a lot of it, but seriously what makes 50 Cent think he's a clothing designer? Why are Method Man and Red Man on Speed Stick commercials (or whatever brand it is)? I understand your...

    Underappreciated Synths?

Casio SK-1. It's a great little sampling synth from like 1989. I love it. It's got the cheesiest sounds, and it can sample. I just checked and they are going for $50-$75 on ebay so I guess they may not be underappreciated.

    Alesis SR16 cymbal sounds

I too have an SR-16, and I think the best think I found is to record it using MIDI and changing out the cymbals, triggering a "real" cymbal from a sample library.

    Taxi!

Wait...your service doesn't cost money? That's an odd business plan. You "get" these people careers and you don't charge a dime? I'd like a career please. It's free right? That's what you said, it doesn't cost you money. I have some songs I've recorded, so if I send them to you, you'll get...

any record lables looking for artist?

You should play live, build a big following and very good local buzz, after that you should set up a tour of cities and states close to you and build a following there, and create buzz there. Get your music to college stations and see if they'll play it, and then you can get even more buzz...

what does a hip hop artist need around him/her?

I think most of you people posting here need an English teacher. Do you actually talk like you type? You sound ridiculous. If you want my opinion, you need to get some decent English skills, a lawyer, and some talent, then you need to get some live shows, and a local following to build a...

    WTB: cheap adat

Man, someone should take this guy up on his offer. $600 for 3 ADATS and a BRC? That's an awesome deal! If didn't already have what I needed in the ADAT department I would scoop this up. My BRC was $700 alone i think.

    Call Me Cell

Is that the name of the song? "Call Me Cell?" That's not really proper English is it? It's not the Kings English as they say.

500 Top songs per Rolling Stone Mag

:) Alright, that did sound sort of "dad" like. But seriously, Three Doors Down? Nickleback? Jesus, they're awful! Give me the good bands they are copying from, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, hell, I'd take Mudhoney over Nickleback anyday! That's all I was saying.

    Old Songs

Yeah, send me your songs, and make sure they're uncopyrighted, and if I happen to tell you that I'm going to use them on my album, we can probably work out some monetary compensation for you....MAYBE.

500 Top songs per Rolling Stone Mag

You know what song wasn't on there? American Pie by Don McLean. You know why? It's not good! hehehe I just thought it was funny that a song so many people love, and is by all rights a classic, isn't even in the top 500 of songs on the Rolling Stone list.

Reverse reverb to help sync overdubs?

You can always change the tempo of the click in the song when you change tempo. Just figure out where it is and make a tempo map. Your click will change if you program the tempo changes into your recording software.

    Cleaning Out your Ears

Ear cleaning is awesome. I had some pain in my left ear a few weeks ago....some serious pain....so I went to the doctor and they hooked up this squirt gun to the faucet, and flushed a piece of ear wax out that was the size of a quarter! They said it was pushing on my ear drum and that's why it...

Having trouble getting the mix just right!

Go away from it for a while. Take your mix, put it aside for a week or two and work on some other stuff, don't listen to it at all. Then you'll get to practice on other stuff, honing your skills, and with the new skills you've gained on your new song, you can revisit your old song and hear the...

    Mixing in my apartment.

Go online and google "bass traps" and "Hemholtz resonators" You can find ones to buy, but they are easy to make, so you can totally get cheap material and make them yourself. I can post somethings later about figuring out what problem frequencies your room has, and how to fix those (I just...

How does Mixing/Mastering work in the hip-hop world?

The producer probably mixes the beat himself, but if/when someone buys it, or gets it for free, or whatever, they will probably be adding on vocals to the beat. When they bring it to their own system, it's gonna sound different when the vox comes in. Some things could be clashing with the vox...
