Help Me Pick My 1st Recorder!

For your purposes the BR864 should work fine. I use an older Tascam recorder that compresses when tracking, and although the number of tracks (4) is a big limitation, the compression is barely noticable unless bouncing to open up tracks, something that would be less of an annoyance with 8 tracks.

Help Me Pick My 1st Recorder!

One key thing to keep in mind with the BR864 and some other machines that record to CF memory cards is that they record in data-compression mode to sasve space on the CF card. Depending on the selected level of compression (I think the 864 has 3), some sound quality will be lost due to the data...

Looking to hook up keyboard to computer...

That might work, but I think you would be better off using a standard USB cable between the USB ports on your computer and the S08, as MIDI to USB cables can introduce problems. You will need to install the driver on your PC. If you use windows...

    Guitar D.I. Stereo or mono?

I don't know your pod and have never recorded anything USB. But if your pod works stereo-wise like my Digitech pedal, then stereo might sound better (matter of taste) with some effects, especially such as those using phasing. Of course it won't sound natural as in like a single amp being miked...

    Zoom MRS4 and logic

All I know about the MRS4 is what I (think) I remember from when I was considering it before buying something else. I seem to recall that the MRS had two recording modes -- one called "long" that may use a slower sampling rate - maybe a half speed rate of 22K. That is the first thing I would...

    multitrack recorders just under $1000?

My choice would be: AW1600 -- $1000 on-line at www.americanmusical.com -- free shipping -- 1 year extended warranty. Also $1000 with free shipping and free headphones at musiciansfriend.com, but the site says its backordered. This unit and its predecessor the AW16G are very well regarded...

Ever been afraid to ruin your songs.

All the time. It is doubly frustrating to come up with one good verse and a refrain and then get stuck. I call them one verse wonders, and I have quite a few of them.

The performances on the song are fine considering the audience in this forum, with all due respect to the virtuosos among us whomever them may be.

    Tortured Soul

Hi Nicole, I would like the song more if it was more produced from its current musical simplicity. I would at least put in electric g throughout, instead of just the solo, which BTW comes a little to early in the song for my taste. Tom

    Showcase your best song!

Sure ... be glad to. I listened to a couple of 'em. They are very nicely recorded. The songs were boring and maddeningly repititious, sort of like an LSD trip that you want to be over but it just goes on and on. But they were well recorded.

    Dp-02cf ??

Hearing how you record your guitar makes me want to look into some kind of pickup for my acoustic. I can see your point. Using your favored guitar recording method will not work at all with your PS5 in that it records in compressed mode, so even if you are inclined to bounce two tracks...

    Dp-02cf ??

I don't use ebay as I consider it too much of a risk. However, my experience is that the prices of new gear on e-bay are often no better than Musicians Friend and American Musical supply once shipping cost is taken into consideration -- both offer free shipping on any order over $100 I think...

I'll send you a PM later regarding PS5UG and MIDI. Are we the only PS5 users reading this forum? Regarding your for desire for front end mixing capability, it would be interesting to know how much cost and size adding a 2 channel to one input bussing function to the DP series. The key...

    Dp-02cf ??

Assuming that the CF records uncompressed, for calculations on uncompressed WAV recording, I (conservatively) estimate approx 5MB per mono minute for 16-bit data sampled at 44,000 samples/sec. Add 40MB for a 4-minute stereo mix and that would equate to an max of 200MB per song, or 5 such songs...

    Dp-02cf ??

I think the DP02CF also lacks the built-in input effects and CD burning capability of the more expensive HD version. That and the fact that it likely records uncompressed and thus limits how many minutes you can put on a CF, would mean that DP02CF is targeted as a portable device to create WAVs...
