Do different cassette lengths play back at different speeds?

Thanks for your help. I regularly clean the heads so I don't think it's them. I'll see if there's anyone around who can repair it...I can order a new belt but I'm in England so it's going to take some time. :(

Do different cassette lengths play back at different speeds?

That's a good idea Alan, about to try it. is changing the motor speed difficult? here's something I've recorded for demonstration....to me it sounds slightly flat and warbly...so frustrating! 488speed by justwilliamandtheoutlaws on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

    Getting a louder mix overall

I don't actually have monitor speakers, but the master faders on the tascam have to be at about 2-3 max to avoid clipping...just seems strange :/

    Please check out this song

Sounds a bit John lennon/late beatles to me, which is of course a good thing! I'm only a newb but for what it's worth, I think the vocals could be more defined/louder in the mix. Good work though :) Nice descending chord progressions though, again very lennon-esque (if that's what you're going for)

    Getting a louder mix overall

Sorry, should of made that clearer - I'm plugging it into the USB but in audacity the input/recording level (not the mic level) has to be set really low.

    Getting a louder mix overall

Hi, I'm recording on a Tascam 488 and going though an EMU 0204 to get it on my computer...the thing is, the monitor level on the tascam have to be way down, as do the gain knobs on the Emu, aswell well as the mic input level on the computer to avoid clipping...is this normal and is there a way...

    Amp hum/buzz

I've got a Vox pathfinder 15 and I want to close mic it but the mic picks up too much hum from the amp. Is this normal and if so is there a way round it? I can move the mic away but then i have to turn the amp up anyway to get the same level, meaning more hum :S Do I just have a dodgy amp!?

Recording bass through a guitar amp

Ah cool as, I tried it with the line out and mic'ed as well at low volume (my low is still pretty low, specially when parents are watching tv) - it sounded ok with DI aswell! It's a Vox pathfinder 15w...I saw the La's a few months back and they were using it live as a bass amp, maybe for...

Do different cassette lengths play back at different speeds?

Thanks Beck, I haven't had chance to re-time it, I'll have another go tomorrow morning. this playback difference, should I get it 'normalised'? Or are most cassette decks slightly off?

I'd really like to know how to improve so comments more than welcome if you get a spare minute to listen! Also if anyone can compress it to good effect then please feel free...as it's a bit quiet. Cheers! Rain (8 track demo) by justwilliamandtheoutlaws on SoundCloud - Create, record and share...

Recording bass through a guitar amp

Ok so I don't have a bass pre-amp, I was thinking of plugging my bass into my amp, running the line out from the amp straight into the mixer...would this damage the speaker if it was muted because of the line out? Cheers

Do different cassette lengths play back at different speeds?

Hmm recorded a 15 min program on a SA60, played it back and it stopped at 14.29 on a stopwatch...what does this mean?

What's the point of a really good transparent pre-amp?

Ah I see, noise floor being the level before you add an input? So with an onboard pre-amp an external one isn't 100% necessary...

What's the point of a really good transparent pre-amp?

If a pre-amp only boosts a signal, what do transparent pre-amps actually do? I mean what's the point in just boosting the signal..?

Do different cassette lengths play back at different speeds?

I've been using SA90s and I recently got some SA60s but playback seems to be slower...is this normal or is there something wrong with my cassette deck? Thanks

    Rode NT5
