How do we feel about auto-wah pedals?

I don't like autowah. Almost impossible to control. You don't get any human expression out of them.

    Drum panning - EZ Drummer

I pan to the dummers POV, probably cuz I'm a drummer. I've been doing it this way for 30 years. Panning to the audience POV confuses my brain

Open to Feedback on my Mixes

I used these tracks for vocals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOyG3VXWj6U https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfSlqDlrwAI I only added a bit of compression and some reverb. I doubled the BU vocal track and panned hard left and right with a 15 ms delay between the two. I don't know where I would...

    Electric Vs. Acoustic drums.

don't forget to experiment with your tunings (pitch). Tunings that sound great to the human ear don't always translate well to tape, and tunings that sounds like crap to the human ear can sound great on tape. Drums sounds are easily manipulated through EQ, compression, gating, reverb, etc. For...

Open to Feedback on my Mixes

I agree, the cymbals were too loud on that one. I usually pan aux percussion hard left/right. This allows me to pan guitars and BU vocals partial left and right. I find this fills the space better. Thanks everyone for the feedback.

    Record in Mono Or Stereo

I agree it's not for everyone. I would much rather record an acoustic guitar with 3 mics (2 x stereo and one center), but if all you have is one mic and you want a wide sound, this is one way to get it. That's all I was trying to point out.

Open to Feedback on my Mixes

Hi Folks, I'm new to this forum and I just found this Mixing Clinic Section. I'm not sure if youtube links are ok here, but here is my latest mix, as well as my channel. I've never had anybody critique my mixes so I would love to hear feedback. Maybe there is a common mistake I'm making that I...

    Record in Mono Or Stereo

To add to all this ......... You can also record a mono signal (guitar or vocals) and make it a stereo signal later on. One way to do this is to copy your mono track (track 1) and paste it into empty tracks 2 and 3. Now you have 3 tracks of the same mono signal. Then you drag track 2 slightly...

Where do you start your mixes from?

I just find it easy to get a good balance of the rhythm section without the drums .... maybe it's because I'm a drummer and I see it from a different view. I dunno ............ and yes that's me in the avatar. A silly picture to show that I never take myself too seriously. I promise I'm not a...

Where do you start your mixes from?

I mix my drums first then I mute the drums then I mix the rythm section (guitar, bass, piano, keyboards) to around -6DB as this is foundation of the song IMHO. then I bring the drums back into the mix then I start adding the aux percussion, if any then I add in the flavor (lead vocals, lead...

    2 x SM57's stopped working

I agree, I didn't blow too hard, not like I was blowing up a balloon and busting my lungs. I just cupped my hand around it and blew gently, just enough to get the diaphragm moving more than just singing into it.

    2 x SM57's stopped working

There shouldn't be any crud in them. They have never been used for vocals, only drums and amps and instruments. When I A/B them against my new 57s I just bought, they sound exactly the same now. I'll stick with the suck and blow method until it doesn't work anymore, then I'll take the caps off...

    2 x SM57's stopped working

I should add that my mic locker is located right near a sliding glass door and it can get kinda moist and humid in that area during the winter. I get a bid of condensation on the bottom of the glass door, but not much. Maybe that's what caused it. But they are stored in SHURE bags in a wooden...

    2 x SM57's stopped working

Holly Crap it worked !!! Although sucking didn't work, but cupping my hand around the mic and blowing (with an air tight seal so all the air went into the diaphragm) worked !!! I could have saved myself a couple of hundred bucks!! Oh well Can never have enough 57s around I guess. Thanks for the...

    2 x SM57's stopped working

When I say "At the same time". I just mean I plugged the both in for a project and realized they both weren't working after using them both successfully for another project a couple of weeks previous. Regarding different cables. I plug in one 57 and it doesn't work. I plug in a known good 57...

    2 x SM57's stopped working

Hi Folks, I recently had 2 x SM57s stop working. Not stop working completely. They sound hollow and lower volume, as if someone put on a low cut @ 500hz or something with the gain turned down slightly. I find it strange this happened to 2 mics at relatively the same time. My other 57s still...
